J&K climbers win 4 medals in 2nd IMF All India Sports Climbing C’ship

JAMMU, Oct 30: J&K sport climbers gave a creditable performance by winning 4 medals including 1 Gold, 2 Silver and 1 Bronze in the 2nd IMF All India Sport Climbing Championship which concluded at Indore.
Shivani Charak, an international sport climber of J&K, bagged 1 Gold and 1 Silver medals in Lead and Speed Climbing respectively in the Women category, Ajay Deep Singh, another good climber, also bagged 2 medals including a silver and a bronze in Lead and Speed Climbing respectively in the Junior Boys category. Arun Deep Singh, another talented climber of J&K narrowly missed medals both in Lead and Speed Climbing and finally finished 4th in both the categories.
Since it was a ranking competition Shivani Charak with a Gold (100points) and a Silver medal (80 points) in her kitty increased her points tally to 360 points and has now become the top ranked women climber in the country. Meanwhile, Shivani Charak left today for Chongqing, China along with 10 other members of the Indian team to participate in the Asian Youth Championship being held there from November 1 to 4.
The other J&K climbers also excelled in various categories but somehow remained medal less. Ritesh Sharma in the Junior Boys category and Randeep Singh in Sub Junior categories who had raised vision of a medals by entering the knock out round of the speed competition, could not progress beyond the quarterfinal stage
Over all it was an excellent performance by the 8 member team with 6 climbers entering the final rounds in various forms of competitions and two climbers winning 1 gold, 2 Silver and 1 bronze medal in their respective categories. Manik Slathia accompanied the State team as Manager cum Coach.
The State team was sponsored by J&K State Sports Council.
On its return from the All India Competition today, the team along with the Manager cum Coach Manik Slathia called on the Secretary, Mountaineering Association of J&K Ram Khajuria and Arti Sharma, Principal Apple Kids, Bantalab, Jammu. Both hoped that the climbers would work more hard and win more medals for the State.
Arti Sharma assured the climbers that the School will provide the necessary infrastructural and coaching facilities and all other possible help for the promotion of the game.
Satish Bhan and Sonam Sidharth, an executive members of Mountaineering Association of J&K were prominent among others present on the occasion.
