Jio counters Airtel, offers 1.5 GB additional data with discounts

NEW DELHI, June 12: Reliance Jio has revised its tariff plans in response to Airtel’s 1GB daily additional data on Rs 149 and Rs 399 price points, as Jio had promised to offer ‘best tariffs’ in the industry always at the time of its launch.
Jio will now be offering 1.5 GB additional 4G data per day to all Jio users who recharge with any daily-recurring data pack. With this on recharge of Rs 149, 349, 399, 449, users will get 3GB data daily instead of 1.5 GB data.
Similarly, 2GB per day data pack users on recharge of Rs 198, 398, 448, 498 will now get 3.5 GB/day. Users recharging with Rs 299 will get 4.5 GB/day, for Rs 509 they will get 5.5 GB/day and for Rs 799 they will get 6.5GB/day.
Furthermore, the company will offer a Rs 100 discount on all recharges of Rs 300 and above and 20% on recharges below the Rs 300 price point, if the user recharges through the MyJio app and pays using PhonePe wallet.
This will bring down the effective cost of the data-voice packs where Rs 149 pack will effectively cost Rs 120 with 3GB/day data, free voice, SMS and Jio Apps for 28 days. Similarly, the Rs 399 pack will be available at an effective cost of for Rs 299 with 3GB/day data, free voice, SMS and Jio Apps for 84 days. The additional data benefit will be available post 4 PM starting 12th June to 30th June, 2018.
Jio has drawn a comparison between its offers and that of Airtel’s saying that its offers are not segmented as some of Airtel’s offers, rather they’re open to all Jio users. Also, Airtel’s voice minutes are limited to 250 minutes a day or 1000 minutes a week with roaming unavailable whereas Jio is offering ‘unlimited’ voice, SMS and app benefits, as the company puts it. It is also to be noted that Airtel is offering 2G/3G/4G data based on network conditions whereas Jio is offering 4G data.
Jio in mid-May had initiated another tariff war where it introduced a new postpaid plan of Rs 199 which was sharply lower than tariffs of incumbent telcos. Just 19 months after initiating services, the telco has become India’s third-largest telecom operator by revenue market share owing to its aggressive pricing strategy.
