JDF organizes seminar on medico-legal problems

JAMMU, Nov 18: Jammu Doctors Forum (JDF) today organized a seminar on a burning topic based on medico-legal problems and litigations encountered by the medicos in day-to-day practice.
Dr Mahesh Baldwa, a pediatrician turned lawyer was the guest speaker on the occasion while one of the top ranked advocate, Sunil Sethi and Dr KC Sharma (an old experienced reputed surgeon an innovative doctor) also graced the occasion as guests.
Dr Satya Dev Gupta, president, JDF, while introducing the topic, expressed that doctors remain on forefront, day and night in the treatment of the ailing humanity but despite this hard work, they get the rude treatment and ruthlessly assaulted by the hostile mob and even by the executive bodies. He said a member of medical professions cannot give guarantee to the patient that the outcome will be always in his/her favour.
Sunil Sethi, who is fighting many civil turned into criminal cases filed against the doctors by the litigants, commented on Consumer Forum Act as blessings and curse for medical profession and public at large and advised the medical fraternity how to act safely keeping in mind the doctor-patient relationships. He answered the queries put by the audience.
Dr Mahesh Baldwa enlightened the doctors about their rights and responsibilities towards patients. In his speech, he talked about how to take consent from patient party and maintain records of treatment given to the patients because he believes both doctor and patient will forget but records will always speak.
He also described several shortcomings, deficiency of service and unfair trade practice by very small group of doctors, which are less than 1% but spoiling the image of other 99 % of scrupulous and ethical doctors.
Dr KC Sharma shared his experiences pertaining to medico-legal cases with the audience and other dignitaries on the stage. He gave his valuable advice to the surgeons particularly and doctor community in general.
Earlier, Dr Dushyant Choudhary, general secretary of the Forum, in his welcome address, described the aims and objectives of the Forum. The seminar concluded with vote of thanks by Dr Gurjeet Singh, the advisor of JDF.
