POONCH, Oct 4: Youth National Conference Provincial president and former MLA Poonch Ajaz Jan today expressed anguish and shock over the injuries inflicted to several people and colossal damage caused to property in Sawjian and Shahpur near Line of Control due to unabated shelling from across the border and assailed the apathetical and indifferent attitude of the PDP-BJP Government towards the sufferers.
“It is shocking that nobody from the administration, least to speak of political executives, visited the affected people so far to take stock of the situation and extend help to them”, Mr Jan said while undertaking extensive visit of the affected villages in Mandi area and interacting with the people.
The affected families informed the former MLA how the situation turned volatile and they came under direct shelling, causing fear and insecurity among the border residents. They gave detailed account of damages caused to their properties, saying two women of Sawjian and two from Shahpur suffered injuries due to shelling. One of the four injured has been shifted to Government Medical College, Jammu for specialized treatment.
Jan said 100 per cent damage has been caused to the property including 27 shops while several automobiles had also suffered damages.
The Youth NC leader  expressed solidarity with the sufferers and all those along the Line of Control who had to leave their homes and hearths for safety. He said that such a situation has become complicated  for the people.
“There has to be some sort of mechanism to ensure safety of these people by relocating them to safer places with all amenities”, he said, adding however that the Coalition Government seems to have absolved itself from its responsibilities.
Mr Jan sought immediate survey of the damages caused to the property so that the sufferers are compensated. “Till that time, preliminary relief and assistance should be immediately released in their favour, apart from free treatment to the injured”, he added.
