POONCH, Nov 5: Provincial President Youth National Conference Ajaz Jan today expressed deep anguish over widespread devastation caused by continued shelling from across the border on civilian areas.
“There seems no end to these hostilities in absence of meaningful engagement between India and Pakistan”, Jan said after two-day extensive visit to the areas close to zero line in Poonch district. He prayed for peace to dawn early in the region saying major brunt of these hostilities is being faced by the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Interacting with border dwellers of Qasba village, close to LoC, Jan expressed anguish over the failure of the PDP-BJP Government in reaching out to suffering people, meeting the situation in terms of shifting the vulnerable segments to safer locations and ensuring their sustenance during these difficult times.
“The Government seems to have virtually abandoned the border population”, Provincial President YNC said while taking strong exception to failure of the ruling dispensation in keeping up commitments with regard to safe shelters, bunkers and plots promised during 2014 elections.
He said, “jingoistic overtures would no longer instil sense of security among the border people who are facing innumerable difficulties on account of shelter and other facilities. The fear psychosis has engulfed the entire border belt, which has retarded the process of return to homes and hearths”, adding “people are feeling a sense of neglect as the Government has not risen to occasion to meet the unprecedented situation”.
He stressed the need for immediate rehabilitation of the people in view of ensuing winter.
While highlighting the problem of the people living in Qasba, Jan said that score of people in this area are physically challenged while many lost their life due to border firing and land mine explosions, “The Government must shoulder its responsibilities and come to the rescue of people”, he maintained.
