JAMMU, Feb 11: Launching a scathing attack on the State Government for perpetuating discrimination against the educated youth of Jammu while providing lion’s share to Kashmir in employment besides ex-gratia and jobs to stone pelters, scores of aggrieved youth led by NPP chairman Harsh Dev Singh staged a strong protest demonstration at Exhibition Ground here today.
Considering the degrees as redundant pieces of paper, highly qualified contingent of youth comprising of PhDs, M Phils, double post graduates and contractual lecturers consigned their hard earned degrees to flames to express their embitterment against the ‘dark rule’ of ominous BJP-PDP alliance.
Dubbing the State Government’s announcement of jobs as well as ex-gratia to NOKs of slain militants and thousands of stone pelters as highly offensive, Harsh Dev Singh regretted that in the back drop of BJP’s “Achey Din”, the ruffians, vandals, hooligans and illiterates were glorified where as the educated youth were discriminated, exploited, suppressed and treated like disposables. The people who had set Kashmir on fire danced to the tunes of secessionists, supported Burhan Wani’s ideology, attacked Army camps, pelted stones on the security forces, snatched weapons from the defence personnel, torched schools and public property, unfurled Pak/ ISIS flags,  shouted anti -India slogans and waged war against the State were given incentives under the Govt’s insane policy.  And contrarily, the State Government continued to pursue the policy of use and throw towards the educated youth of Jammu, Harsh Dev lamented.
Anguished over the deprivation of Jammu youth in selections to Govt services, Singh made a shocking reference of the recently published select list of Assistant Professors in the discipline of Commerce in which mere 13 posts went to Jammu region out of 58. He regretted that earlier select lists also figured that out of 34 candidates in History, 9 belonged to Jammu region, 7 candidates out of 26 in Physics, 9 in Psychology out of 27 and likewise in other subjects. He further unveiled the highly biased selections in Economics and Statistics Directorate, wherein out of 26 candidates selected for Junior Statistical Assistants only 1 belonged to Jammu region.
And in Health and Medical Education department, out of 123 selections of consultants in Radiology, Medicine, Ophthalmology, ENT, Orthopaedics, Gynaecology, Pathology and Paediatrics only 23 belonged to Jammu region, he maintained.
NPP leader alleged bias and prejudice in the selections and said it has not only demoralized the aspiring Jammu youth but sparked colossal outrage which needed immediate attention of the Government.
