Jammu University holds International Boxing Night

JAMMU, Apr 20: The Directorate of Sports and Physical Education University of Jammu today organized the open boxing night challenge in collaboration with the King of the Boxing Ring Club Canada, in which boxers of Jammu University boxing academy locked horns with the Canadian boxers.
Farooq Ahmed Khan, Administrator of the Union Territory of Lakshadweep was the chief guest on the occasion while Dr Meenakshi Kilam, Registrar University of Jammu presided over the function.
Speaking on occasion, Mr. Khan said that by organizing such events the sports talent of the state youth would further be honed up, enabling them to compete at the national and international level. He further said that by encouraging and organizing such events the talent of youth would get properly channelized for better sportsmanship.
Dr Kilam in her address congratulated the Director Sports and Physical Education Dr Daud Iqbal Baba and his entire team for organizing such a prestigious sports event.
In bout no-1 Roland Jeffery of Canada defeated Akshit Chauhan of Jammu University boxing academy in 69 kg wt. category, while in bout no-2, Sunny of Canada defeated Anil Chib of Jammu University boxing academy in 75 kg wt. category.
In other bouts, Hardesh Singh of Jammu University boxing academy defeated Gursagan Deol of Canada in 64 kg wt. category and Anil of Jammu University boxing academy defeated Yogesh Sharma of JU in an exhibition bout of 54 kg wt. category.
In women section, Shabnam Malik of Jammu University boxing academy defeated   Renu in 60kg wt. category.
The bouts were officiated by Paul Demelo, AIBA star one Refree and judge, Sarfaraz from JKP, Rohit Kumar and Sajjad.
Ajaz Khan was the coach of the King of the Ring Boxing Canada and Harinderpal Singh was the coach of the Jammu University boxing team.
Earlier, in his welcome address Dr. Daud Iqbal Baba informed that University of Jammu will also sign an MoU with King of the Boxing Ring Club Canada which will give opportunity to the players of both the countries to visit Canada and India to learn and share experience and talent.
Dr. Komal Nagar and Vinay Manhas conducted the proceedings of the function whereas the vote of thanks was presented by Dr Brij Baloria.
The event was managed by the team of Raj Kumar Bakshi, Gagan Kumar, Vikas Karlopia, Pardeep Sharma, Jai Bharat and PD Singh.
