This is in reference to the article titled ‘Forcible Acquisition of Agri Land’ by Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat (Daily Excelsior 24/2/2018), J&K Government has been already told by National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) that they are ready to pay compensation as per National Land Acquisition Act of 2013 (RFCLARR 2013) but it seems the State Government is not ready to go ahead. Our land holding in J&K is very very less as compared to other states of India, instead of giving us better compensation the Government seems to compel farmers to commit suicide in J&K which otherwise has not been witnessed in J&K till date. From Kathua to Kupwara we are losing our agriculture land due to massive urbanization and haphazard construction. Authorities need to find ways and means to safeguard it. The farmers whose land is acquired should be taken into confidence and compensation should be paid in the same manner what is paid to rest of the farmers in other states.
