NEW DELHI, Nov 6: A representative delegation of Jammu industrialists, led by Rattan Dogra, Chairman, Federation of Industries Jammu, today met Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh and explained the constraints being faced by the Jammu industry as a result of, what they described as, the withdrawal of incentives following the implementation of GST.
The members of delegation first held a separate meeting with Dr Jitendra Singh which was immediately followed by a meeting with Arun Jaitley, in which also Dr Jitendra Singh was present. They also presented a memorandum explaining the logic behind the demands put up by them.
According to the memorandum submitted by the delegation, following the introduction of GST regime, incentives available to them have practically been withdrawn vide Notification No. F10(1)/2017-DBA-11/NER dated 05.10.2017. The memorandum further explained that this has led to abrupt reduction in both the quantum and the time period of the incentives available to them earlier.
The memorandum requested for  intervention by the Government of India and the Union Ministry of Finance in restoring Central Fiscal Incentives available in the pre-GST regime. It further stated that if a special fiscal package is being designed for the North Eastern States, the State of Jammu & Kashmir may also be included in the same package.
Arun Jaitley gave a patient hearing to the delegation and discussed the various aspects of the issues raised by the representatives of Jammu industry. He also enumerated the various factors responsible for the slow growth of industry in different sectors, including the health sector, in the State.
Jaitley assured the delegation that he would look into the issues raised by them sympathetically and direct the Ministry to work out whatever is feasible under the given circumstances.
Earlier, the members of delegation, during their separate meeting with Dr Jitendra Singh, requested him to follow-up their issue earnestly.
Dr Jitendra Singh, who is leaving for Surat for the “Gujarat Gaurav Yatra” as BJP Election Co-incharge of the State, assured the members that he would again take up the issue soon after his return to the national capital. He also suggested that the J&K State Government and the State Ministry should be prevailed upon to provide whatever relaxation and incentives are possible at their end.
Besides Chairman Rattan Dogra, other members of the Federation of Industries, Jammu who were present in these meetings included Lalit Mahajan, Co-Chairman, Ajay Langar, Secretary General, Pradeep Vaid, General Secretary, Rajinder Gupta, Praveen Gupta and Rajesh Jain.
