Apropos DE Dec 1, “Jammu deserve better deal” by Sunil Seth, makes an interesting reading. The writer has started his write up on a sound footing, but loses way after the suggestion of making Jammu a “Information technology hub”.
The writer could have made more and meaningful suggestions in line with this thinking but he gets deviated to the concept of smart city and defective city planning. There cannot be two opinions that Jammu has already become a victim of this migration of the unemployed youth. There is a live example of many villages of Samba district which are now only old age homes as the youth are working as far away as Hydrabad and Kolkata, Channai.Only gainful employment in Jammu can reverse this trend and creation of SEZs in the field of IT and solar energy tapping projects can create job opportunities as well be eco friendly. Though there is vast potential in the tourism sector but for the Govt. this seems to be a least priority as far as Jammu is concerned. Mantalai is the best example of intentional neglect.
