JAMMU, Jan 15: Initiated by a UK-registered charity by the same name, Veganuary is an event about inspiring people to try vegan in January.
The number of countries hosting Veganuary has been steadily increasing each year and it is for the first time that Earthr.org, a global nonprofit foundation has partnered with Veganuary and brought it to India.
Veganuary-India 2019 is aiming to change public attitudes about vegan foods by providing people with the information and practical support to overcome challenges and make a smooth transition to a vegan diet.
Through highly positive and non intrusive messaging, communities all across India are being encouraged to celebrate vegan diets and help non vegetarians and vegetarians to try going vegan for at least a month.
With full support from Chitwan Wazir, Jammu’s first Veganuary event was celebrated at Gold’s Gym with a tasting session for its members. Good Dot, a Make in India company, provided free samples of their protein chunks and vegetarian meat that were cooked to perfection by Nikhil Sharma of Nik’s Food Factory.
According to Malvika Kalra, City Lead Veganuary, “With more and more athletes, bodybuilders, wrestlers and other sportspersons like Virat Kohli going vegan in diet, the benefits of a plant based diet in building muscle and speeding its repair is being widely recognised. Along with, of course, is the fact that a vegan diet can prevent diseases and antibiotic resistance while also be beneficial in reversing and curing illnesses. So while ethics remains the driving force for going vegan, health becomes our biggest benefit.”
For all those looking for plant based substitutes for mutton and chicken, Good Dot products are easily available at RCM pick up centres in Jammu and across India.
