JAMMU, Sept 6: Under the banner of Joint Action Committee J&K (General Category), Jammu Kashmir General Category Welfare Forum and Aarakshan Virodhi Manch held a joint protest demonstration, here today, against the amendment introduced by at on the SC/ST Atrocities Act and the stand taken by Central Government advocating in Supreme Court for reservation in promotions.
The protest was organized under the leadership of Ved Praksh Sharma, president Brahaman Sabha and Convenor JAC; Anil Gaur, general secretary JAC; Madan Lal Narad, general secretary AVM and Ram Pal Seth, president AVM,
While addressing the gathering, Ved Prakash Sharma strongly condemned the action of Modi Government to murder the rule of law, wherein the Supreme Court order on SC/ST Atrocities Act was overruled. “The amendment is political in nature and far from premises of law and justice while this Government is also contemplating the same for Reservation in Promotions,” he said.
With regard to Jammu and Kashmir State, Ved Parkash Sharma opined that the sovereignty of Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir, which is guaranteed by Article 370 under the Constitution of India and upheld in various judgments of Supreme Court, gives immunity against any amendments even if passed by Centre and are not directly applicable to this State. “We shall fight tirelessly for the equality, justice,” he announced.
Madan Narad said that the Modi Government was hell bent to seek electoral favours on the basis of reservations on caste ignoring the economic criterias. “The poor among all categories irrespective of caste, colour creed should be given one time reservation. The present reservation system is only helping the creamy layer among the scheduled caste and scheduled tribe categories. The poor among these categories are never able to get any benefit even though they may be intelligent,” he added
The Joint Action Committee vowed to teach ruling BJP a lesson for its anti-General category people stand by rejecting the party in forthcoming elections.
Reports said that similar protests were led by Er Salim Bandey, Convenor JAC Poonch, at Poonch against reservation in promotions.
