JAMMU, Nov 29: Joint Action Committee (General Category) today appealed the Government to implement the recent judgement of J&K High Court (HC) quashing reservation in promotion in the State at the earliest so as to end the injustice with general categories.
The issue extensively figured in a meeting of the JAC (General Category) held here today at JDA Park, Trikuta Nagar. The meeting was attended in large number by gazetted and non-gazetted Government employees from various departments, engineers, lawyers, doctors, student associations, different social organizations, members of civil society, etc.
The speakers said that the judgement of the State High Court quashing reservation in promotion, is a step towards upholding the constitution and safeguarding justice and equality, as it has brought a new lease of life to the general categories, which otherwise had been deprived of their constitutional right of getting equal and fair treatment for advancement of their careers through deserved promotions.
They stressed that the judgement has removed the menace of illegal and unjust promotions, which had adversely affected the psyche of the general categories, as they had to suffer the agony and pain of seeing their reserved category juniors marching past them despite the fact that they have already conceded almost 50% of posts to them at the initial appointment level.
The speakers said that general category people in J&K have never been against reservation in appointment. They alleged that a vicious propaganda has been set into motion by so-called representative organizations and politicians of the reserved categories to mislead the public by creating an impression that the reservation in appointment is in danger, which is not only false but also tantamount to presenting a wrong picture of the judgement of the State High Court.
They said that right to equality is a fundamental right of all general categories, which they expect Government to follow and in case it is felt at any time that a contrary path is being adopted by the Government, the JAC would lead the way to fight against such injustice and take the fight to its logical conclusion.
Prominent among the speakers were Ghulam Rasool, president, Non-Gazetted Secretariat Employees Union, VP Sharma, president, Brahmin Pratinidhi Sabha, Vinod Gupta, president, Mahajan Sabha, Kamal Choudhary, president, Jatt Sabha and Anoop Mittal, secretary, Aggarwal Sabha.
