J-K CM hosts Iftar in the capital

NEW DELHI:
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed hosted an Iftar reception tonight in the national capital.
The reception held at a five-star hotel was attended among others by Vice President Hamid Ansari.
BJP’s central leadership was conspicuous by its absence at the event.
According to sources, invitations were extended by Sayeed, the PDP patron, to several BJP leaders. The PDP and BJP are running a coalition Government in J&K.
Some leaders had communicated in advance their inability to attend the reception, sources said.
Besides Ansari, others present at the reception were J and K deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Nirmal Singh, Karnataka Minister Roshan Baig, JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav and Congress leader Karan Singh.
Vice Chancellors of Jamia Milia Islamia, Aligarh Muslim University, Jamia Hamdard and Alfalah Universities and Imam of Jamia Masjid Syed Ahmad Bukhari were also present on the occasion.
Special arrangements were also made for the invitees to offer prayers, which was led by Bukhari.
Invitations were also extended to PDP MPs Muzzafar Hussain baig and Tariq Hamid Qara but they were conspicuous by their absence.
Rubaiya Sayeed, one of the Chief Minister’s three daughters who has not been seen much in public after she was kidnapped by militants in 1989 and then subsequently released, was also present. (AGENCIES)
