UDHAMPUR, Nov 28: Two awareness camps-cum-seminars were held here today on the directions of Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, J&K, Jammu RN Sahay.
The first camp was organized at the DC Office Complex for all the stakeholders including Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs) of Udhampur district and professionals in which the speakers and the professionals updated the knowledge of about 200 participants including 150 DDOs with latest provisions and also requested to spread the message with other colleague employees for widening of tax base.
The second camp was organized at Income Tax Office premises in Udhampur for prominent citizens, Income Tax professionals i.e. CAs and advocates, businessmen of Udhampur and representatives of Chamber of Commerce and other Trade Associations in which more than 100 participants were present.
The events were presided over by SS Negi, Joint Commissioner of Income Tax, Range-2, Jammu. MA Shah, Assistant Commissioner of Income Tax, Circle-2, Jammu, ML Dogra, Income Tax Officer, Udhampur, IS Chawla, Income Tax Officer (TDS), Jammu and Anil Verma, Chartered Accountant were also present and presented their views in the “Public Awareness Programme” and offered their support to spread the message of widening of tax base, Operation Clean Money and Corruption Free India.
The speakers of the seminar also covered the awareness topics of widening of tax base, Operation Clean Money, Operation Shiksha and Operation Corruption Free India along with other related topics i.e. filing of returns of income and Government initiatives for development in and around Udhampur area. Negi said that income tax should not be taken as a burden but should be considered as a price for civilization and be paid voluntarily.
Various topics like Operation Shiksha and Operation Clean Money with a vision of creating a Corruption Free India and involving the taxpayers as partners in nation building were discussed threadbare.
At the end of each seminar, an interactive session was held and various queries raised by the participants were resolved.
Negi also specifically requested all the stakeholders to cooperate with the department in submitting their replies to queries raised through e-proceedings on Operation Clean Money on cash deposits during the demonetization period in order to avoid any penal action provided under the Income Tax Act.
During the seminars, the department sought cooperation from the taxpayers to realize the dream of a corruption free India and also reminded the participating citizens of their invaluable role in nation building through proper and timely payment of taxes due.
