ISRO launched 202 ‘foreign’ satellites in four years: Dr Jitendra

NEW DELHI, Aug 9: Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has, in just four years of the Modi Government, launched as many as 202 “foreign” satellites, out of a total of 237 foreign satellites launched in nearly 25 years since 1993.
Stating this in reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha today, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh disclosed that over the last few years, there has been a remarkable increase in the number of international satellites launched and considering the future launch demand for increased number of nano and small satellites, there are plans to increase the number of PSLV launches and also to develop dedicated small launches to cater to this rising market demand.
Pertinent to mention that the revenue earned so far from the launch of the foreign satellites amounts to over 22 million USD and 159 million Euros. Not only this, the countries for whom the ISRO has been offering the facility to launch satellites include USA, Russia, UK, Japan, France, Canada, etc., some of whom had begun their Space programme several years or decades before India.
Later, elaborating on the reply furnished in the Rajya Sabha, Dr Jitendra Singh said, the just concluded year of 2017 was a year of several “first-ever” landmarks and “world records” for India.
It was on May 5, 2017 that Prime Minister Narendra Modi formally launched the first-ever South Asia Satellite which would also cater to the neighboring countries of Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Maldives. Similarly, in September 2017, the Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) completed three years in orbit ever since it was formally launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 24, 2014. Earlier to this, on February 15, 2017, India set a world record by putting into space the highest-ever number of 104 satellites in a single launch through PSLV-C37.
