ISIS trying to gain ground in Kashmir : Govt

NEW DELHI :  Dreaded terrorist outfit, Islamic State  of Iraq and Syria, is trying to gain ground in Kashmir, the government informed the Rajya Sabha today.    In a written reply, Minister of State for Home, Kiren Rijiju, said the Government was closely monitoring the situation and had  directed intelligence and security agencies to identify all such elements and keep a watch on their activities.     The cyber-space was also being closely scanned in this regard, the Minister said.
He said that although there are no intelligence inputs that ISIS was trying to gain ground among the youth in Kashmir, some youths had unfurled the flags of ISIS in Srinagar on a few occasions during the past two-three months.        Interrogation in these cases indicated that the youths had seen ISIS related literature on social media and were allured by it.
None of the youths was associated with any terrorist organisations, the Minister added.
