Irate residents block NH at Lakhanpur

KATHUA, Jan 20: The irate residents of Jagatpur held a strong demonstration at Lakhanpur today and blocked the Jammu –Pathankot National Highway for two hours in protest against the opening of wine shop at Jagatpur after being shifted to that place from Lakhanpur.
The movement of vehicular traffic was paralyzed for complete two hours on the road and there was a huge jam for miles together as protesters did not relent to remove the blockade of the National Highway.
The protesters raising slogans in support of their demand warned against the opening of the wine shop in their area and said the same be shifted to a secluded area.
Earlier the protesters including men, women and children assembled in the village where from they marched towards the Lakhanpur. They squatted on the road and disrupted the movement of vehicular traffic for two hours putting the commuters as well as Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrims traveling from different parts of country to Jammu in trouble.
Later the ADC Kathua Manmohan Singh and Tehsildar Kathua, Avtar Singh visited the area and they pacified the agitating people and ordered the closure of the shop. On their assurance the protestors dispersed.
