Iqbal Day celebrated by Urdu deptts of JU, GDC Dharmari

JAMMU, Nov 9: Iqbal Day, the birth anniversary of renowned poet, Allama Iqbal, was celebrated today by the Department of Urdu of University of Jammu (JU) and Government Degree College (GDC) Dharmari with great enthusiasm.
At JU, the day long celebrations were organized in Prof Gian Chand Jain seminar hall of Department of Urdu. The program was presided over by HoD Urdu, Prof Shohab Inayat Malik while Prof Zia-ud-Din, Dr Mohd Reyaz Ahmed, Dr Chaman Lal, Dr AR Manhas and Dr Farhat Shamim, besides civil society members, students and scholars were present.
The program begins with the patriotic song of Allama Iqbal “Sare Jahan Se Acha Hindustan Humara” sung by the students of the Department of Urdu. A symposium was also organized on the occasion. The theme of the symposium was the ‘Relevance of Iqbal’s poetry in the present era’ in which 20 students participated. The students and scholars also recited Iqbal’s poetry.
Later a seminar was also organized on the life and works of Allama Iqbal in which Dr AR Manhas and Dr Chaman lal presented their papers. Prof Shohab Inayat Malik in his presidential address in detail threw light on the poetry of Allama Iqbal and also his poetic thoughts. He also threw light on “Falsafa-e-Khudi” and “Falsafa-e-Marde-Momen” of Iqbal and described him a poet and a human being par excellence.
The Iqbal Day was also celebrated by Department of Urdu, GDC Dharmari, which organized a function to pay tributes to the great poet on his birth anniversary. Prof Khalid Sajad Bohra, Head, Department of History, was the chief guest on the occasion whereas Dr Mohd Akhtar, HoD Department of Urdu presided over the function.
In his address, Prof Khalid said that Dr Iqbal’s compositions not only are a guide to live a conscious rational social life but also a complete framework for leading a successful spiritual life. He said that Dr Iqbal’s tarane hind “Sare Jahan Se Acha Hindustan Humara” is famous poem and instills a sense of patriotism in every Indian living anywhere in the world.
