International Yoga Day observed across J&K

JAMMU, June 21: Along with other parts of the country as well as world, the 2nd International Day of Yoga was observed today in Jammu and Kashmir where various organizations and institutions organized Yoga events to mark the day.
Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh, Minister for Animal, Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries, Abdul Gani Kohli, Vice Chairman Pahari Development Board  Kuldeep Gupta, legislators Choudhary Sukhnandan, Sat Sharma, Rajesh Gupta, Ramesh Arora, Kuldeep Raj, intellectuals, civil servants, students and people from all walks of life participated in a mega  event in this connection, at Srinagar  this morning.
The session was later followed by an interaction between the participants and the Yoga experts in which various health benefits of Yoga were discussed.
Army’s Fire & Fury Corps observed Yoga Day today at Siachen Glacier, Leh, Kargil and other forward locations along the borders. The officers and jawans performed Yoga and spread awareness on benefits of the same. Practice of Yoga by soldiers in high altitude helps them to combat various diseases such as high altitude sickness, Hypoxia, Pulmonary Odema and the Psychological stresses of isolation and fatigue. The respiratory adaptations of Pranayama help the soldiers to better adapt to the low oxygen environment in High Altitude Areas.
International Yoga Day was celebrated at Udhampur under the aegis of Northern Command. Approx 1500 soldiers and their families attended the same with great enthusiasm.  Qualified Yoga instructors assisted in performance of Yoga asanas. Various Yoga camps were also conducted by Army units and formations in Northern Command across the entire State of Jammu & Kashmir to commemorate International Yoga Day.
On the occasion, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board organized a Yoga event at its Sports Complex at Katra this morning. A number of children, prominent citizens, people of the area, pilgrims, officers and staff of the Shrine Board and officers and jawans of CRPF participated in the Yoga event wherein Ajeet Kumar Sahu, CEO of the Shrine Board was the chief guest. A series of Asanas and pranayam were performed under the supervision of Yoga expert Dayal Ram.
On the occasion of Yoga Day, the valedictory session of one week Yoga Training Programme by University of Jammu was held wherein Vice-Chancellor Prof R D Sharma was the chief guest. The participants displayed some Yoga exercises which they had learnt during the course of training camp.
At Central University of Jammu, programme in connection with International Day of Yoga was divided into three parts, which included performance of Yoga Asanas by the University employees and the members of Vichar Kranti Manch International. The first, second and third prizes were also given to the winner of the event.
At SMVDU, Katra, International Yoga Day was observed by organizing a Yoga and Meditation practice session in the lawn behind the Guest House. Faculty, staff, their family members and students participated in the practice session, which was led by Gurmel.
White Knight Corps observed the International Yoga Day as all ranks stationed at Nagrota Garrison performed Yoga at respective unit locations under supervision of trained Yoga instructors in the early hours. On the occasion, motivational lecture highlighting the importance of Yoga in leading a stress-free lifestyle was imparted. Lieutenant General RR Nimbhorkar, GOC White Knight Corps, exhorted all ranks of corps to practice yoga for a healthy and disease-free life.
The Rising Star Corps observed International Day of Yoga in which Military stations of Mamun, Jammu and Yol showed wholehearted support to the cause. All ranks participated with great fervour and high spirit. The same set of exercises according to the common Yoga protocol, were performed in all stations on the same day and time.
Army at Kalal organized the event at Government Higher Secondary School, Seri to observed 2nd International Yoga Day.  Students and teachers attended the event. The Yoga workshop started with long and intense abstruseness chanting of ‘Om’ in Padmasan with Gyan Mudra followed by prayer.
Air Force Station Jammu also observed International Yoga Day by organizing a Yoga camp.  J&K. Air Commodore, Ashutosh Lal, Air Officer Commanding, Air Force Station Jammu along with Air Warriors of Air Force Station Jammu, participated in the camp. A number of children and females from the families of the Air Force personnel also participated in the event.
Yoga Day was celebrated with fervor and enthusiasm across Power Grid Corporation of India Limited, Northern Region-II. Several programmes were organized in all substations and other establishments of the Region. At Regional Headquarters in Jammu, POWERGRID Yoga centre, Jammu was inaugurated by MP Jugal Kishore in presence of Anil Jain, Executive Director Northern Region-II and others.
NHPC celebrated Yoga Day by opening four Yoga Centres at Office complexes at Narwal and Trikuta Nagar, Government Higher Secondary School, Gandhi Nagar and Govt Hr Sec School, Domana in Jammu. Main celebration took place at NHPC Regional Office Jammu MP Shamsher Singh Manhas was the chief guest. NHPC Salal Power Station Jyotipuram also observed Yoga Day.
Dulhasti Power Station, in association with Patanjali Yog Samiti, Kishtwar, organized a Yoga Camp at Chowgan Ground, Kishtwar, wherein MoS Transport (Independent Charge), Sunil Sharma was the chief guest. GM Dulhasti Power station, P K Langer was present on the occasion.
At Central Jail Jammu, Kotbhalwal, the International Yoga Day was observed by all the jail inmates, staff, CRPF staff and others, who performed Yoga exercises, under the guidance of Director General of Police, Prison, Dr S P Vaid. Senior Superintendent of Jail, Dinesh Sharma also participated in the Yoga programme.
Similar programme was organized at District Jail, Jammu, under the supervision of Superintendent Harish Kotwal.
Under the J&K NCC Directorate, 9626 Cadets participated at more than 15 venues.   Cadets braved inclement weather to reach the venues and continued the Yoga protocol despite heavy rain at various places in the State.
In connection with Yoga Day, the Art of Living Foundation conducted Yoga cum Navchetna workshop for NCC cadets at Nagrota. In the camp, NCC cadets were also taught concentration techniques by way of meditation for a relaxed and stress free mind.
Yogoda Satsang Dhyan Kendra, Jammu of Yogoda Satsang Society of India (YSSI) enthusiastically celebrated International Yoga Day at the meditation centre in Udheywala, Jammu. The devotees were introduced with scientific techniques of Kriya Yoga meditation for direct and personal communion with God.
Patanjali Yog Shastri Nagar Jammu celebrated 2nd International Day of Yoga by organizing a programme wherein Asanas were performed. On the occasion, Dr N K Sharma and Raj Kumar Gupta explained in detail about Pranayam and its benefits. An acupressure camp by Dr Ankur Gupta was also held on the occasion.
UNIC New Delhi in collaboration with Gandhi Global Family (J&K) and Gandhi Peace Foundation (Jammu) organized a unique Yoga session with militancy affected children of J&K at BalGran Channi Rama, Jammu. On the occasion, Padamshree S P Varma said that Yoga could significantly contribute to peace and development globally.
J&K Branch of the NIRC of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, celebrated 2nd International Day of Yoga in association with Bhartiya Yog Sansthan Jammu at ICAI Bhawan Jammu. CA Vinay Saraf  along with other trained Yoga instructors,  moderated the session, taught the importance of Yoga in the modern day living and imparted useful Yoga techniques to the Chartered Accountants and their family members.
Confederation of Indian Industry, J&K State Council, today organized Yoga camp for the industrialists of the State. The yoga camp was organized in collaboration with Bhartiya Yog Sansthan
At Sher-i-Kashmir Indoor Sports Stadium, Srinagar,  Nehru Yuva Kendra in collaboration with the Department of AYUSH, J&K, Department of Youth Services and Sports and Art of Living, J&K branch, organized a programme on the Yoga Day. Secretary Health & Medical Education, Dr  M K  Bhandari was chief guest on the occasion while as Director Health Services, Kashmir, Dr  Saleem-ur-Rehman also  participated in the event.
Similar programmes were organized by the Department of ISM  at Bandipora and  Ganderbal wherein students from ISM&H and Govt N M Higher Secondary School, NCC cadets underwent training of Yoga.
Government Ayurvedic Hospital Jammu organized Yoga session to mark the Yoga Day. On the occasion, experts demonstrated Yog techniques while a lecture was also delivered on ‘Role of Yoga in treating respiratory disorders and Diabetes.’
International yoga day was also observed at Accidental Hospital Ghagwal wherein all officers and officials of the Hospital,  led by Dr Arun Sharma, Incharge and Dr Sandeep Raina Incharge Medical Officer participated.
Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission Charitable Hospital, Ambphalla Jammu celebrated Yoga Day by organizing a programme in association with Bhartiya Yog Sansthan. Former Union Minister Prof Chaman Lal Gupta also attended the programme which was presided over by MLC Ashok Khajuria while  MLC Romesh Arora was the guest of honour.
SOS Children’s Villages of India (SOS India) also celebrated the International Yoga Day throughout the country. At SOS Children’s Village Jammu, everybody gathered at the community hall for the yoga session. The village director shared the importance of the day and yoga.
National Incredible Literacy Mission, Jammu celebrated International Yoga Day at zonal headquarter Patel Bazaar, Jammu city, where large number of students, teachers ,parents and other faculty members participated in indoor Yoga camp.
Nehru Yuva Kendra, Kathua,  in collaboration with District Administration and AYUSH,   observed 2nd International Day of Yoga at Sports Stadium wherein  Deputy Commissioner Ramesh Kumar was chief guest.  Over 1500 persons from all walks of life, performed yoga on the occasion.
At Ramban, Yoga Day programme was organized by the Ayush and Patanjali Yog Peeth Ramban in coordination with District Administration.
In Bhaderwah, the International Yoga Day was observed at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Degree College Bhaderwah and Bhartiya Vidya Mandir, Bhaderwah. The students performed Yoga and were enlightened about benefits of the same.
At GDC Thannamandi, NSS unit of the college celebrated Yoga Day and the programme started with the recitation of few verses of holy Quran.
The National Development Organization, J&K organized a programme in Rajouri on the occasion of Yoga Day. A number of people and volunteers of the organization took part in the programme.
On the occasion of Yoga Day, a Yoga championship was held at Subash Stadium Udhampur. Medals  and gifts were distributed among the participants by Shiv Kumar Sharma, Joint Secretary State sports Council.
In connection Yoga Day, Nehru Yuva Kendra also organized a programme at Jagriti Old Age Home and Bal Ashram, Udhampur where DC Udhampur Niraj Kumar was the chief guest.  A yoga session was held by Patanjali Yog Samiti at Goverdhan Palace.
In Reasi, a yoga camp was organized at Zorawar Singh Stadium wherein DC Reasi, Ravinder Kumar was the chief guest while SSP Reasi Sujit Kumar was the guest of honour.
NSS Unit of GDC Kishtwar celebrated International Yoga Day in the college with full enthusiasm. Volunteers participated in the Yogic practices following the expert demonstrator  Vishal Kumar.
Yoga camps were also held at Batote, Ukhral and BVM High School Ramban.
MIER College of Education in collaboration with NCC Unit of Model Academy,  organized a Yoga camp in which more than 50 volunteers and staff members of MIER participated.
NITS Polytechnic, Indira Nagar, Miran Sahib Jammu, in association with the Art of Living Jammu Chapter, organized a programme on the occasion. Students, staff and general public participated in this event.
KV Nagrota observed Yoga Day in the Vidyalaya premises wherein staff and students of KV Nagrota  performed Yoga exercises while Principal R K Shukla threw light on benefits of Yoga.
Students of Ramisht College of Education celebrated the Yoga Day by performing a lot of Asanas. Faculty of the college also took part in the event.
At Government Mixed Higher Secondary School, Roopnagar, Jammu, the week long  Yoga camp  culminated today on the occasion of International Yoga Day. The students and staff of the school took part in the camp under the supervision of Yoga expert and Principal A K Bhat.
World Yoga Day was organized in Galaxy Group of Colleges, Sainik Colony, Jammu under the patronage of Prof MK Jyoti, Director of the College, in collaboration with local chapter of Indian Science Congress Association. On the occasion, Yog Shikshak from Kathua demonstrated various Yoga exercises to the participants. Students from the colleges of the Group performed various Yoga exercises.
The Day was observed with a sense of piousness and serenity at Purkhoo Campus of Jamwal Group of Educational Institutions (JGEI) in which the faculty members and non-teaching staff of IECS and North Polytechnic participated. The staff and students of these institutions performed various yogic exercises. Thakur Shiv Dev Singh, vice chairman, JGEI, inaugurated the yoga camp.
Institute of Management Sciences (IMS) today observed International Yoga Day in the college campus in collaboration with Bhartiya Yog Sansthan, Jammu. The staff of various colleges of Jamwal Group of Educational Institutions participated in the event. The yoga trainers while performing various yoga postures asked the members to follow and all the staff members performed yoga with great enthusiasm.
Jetking Jammu Centre observed International Yoga Day by organizing a grand event, where students of the Centre performed various Yog Asanas under the guidance of Yoga Trainers from Art of Living Institute of Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. More than 200 students participated in this special event. Naveen Sharma, Director of the Centre, highlighted the importance of Yog in daily Life.
Government College for Women, Parade Ground, Jammu also observed International Yoga Day in its premises, where students, staff and even Principal, Dr Renu Goswami, performed some basic Asanas. Later, the Principal spoke on the importance of the Day.
The NCC cadets of Government Degree College (GDC), Udhampur, Govern-ment College for Women, Udhampur, Government HSS Boys Udhampur (JD), Gover-nment HSS Girls Udhampur (JW), KV No 1(JD) and APS Udhampur (JD) participated in the 2nd International Yoga day event that was organized at GDC Udhampur. About 471 cadets performed the Yoga under the guidance of Yoga Instructor, Des Raj Sharma.
In connection with International Yoga Day, National College of Education, Purkhoo Camp, Jammu, organized two-day Yoga camp that concluded today. First day, students and teachers organized Yoga Camp in slum areas, where students performed many Asanas with people of slum areas. Today, on second day, teachers and students performed Yoga in college premises, where Principal, Dr Manju Dwivedi, explained benefits Yoga to the students.
BSF today observed the International Yoga Day at Frontier HQ BSF from 7 am to 8 am. DK Upadhyaya, IG BSF, while speaking on the occasion, expressed happiness that many BSF persons have been practicing yoga from long time. On the occasion, Yoga teachers from Patanjali Yog Peeth, Jammu were especially invited to teach yoga to BSF personnel. A large number of officers, subordinate officers and other ranks took active part in the event.
On the occasion of International Yoga Day, around 750 NCC cadets performed synchronized Yoga in Nagrota camping ground. A 15-day capsule of yoga training was also carried out for the NCC cadets in the camp by Art of Living Organization. The cadets took active participation in the discipline. Brigadier AK Verma of J&K Directorate NCC and Lt Col Monisha, SRS of 2 J&K Battalion (Boys) NCC also participated.
NSS Wing of Government Polytechnic, Bikram Chowk, Jammu today organized a programme at its campus on the eve of International Day of Yoga. The proceedings of the program began with the introduction to benefits of incorporating Yoga into daily lives. Volunteers, Mahima Sharma and Souhard Narang, trained the students about the wide ranging styles of yoga.
On the eve of International Yoga Day, NSS unit of Government Higher Secondary School, Budhi, organized a simple programme in its premises. More than 100 NSS volunteer, staff members and students participated in the event and performed various Asanas of Yoga with Yoga expert, Bodh Raj. Later, NSS volunteers in the form of a rally spread the message of Yoga in the surroundings of the school.
On International Yoga Day, the NCC Cadets of Government Higher Secondary School, Muthi, Jammu along with other students of the school performed various Asanas of Yoga in the school premises under the supervision of NCC officer, Sohan Singh. Principal, Geetu Bangotra, was also present.
The Day was also observed in Kendriya Vidyalaya, Nagrota (Jammu), where Principal, RK Shukla, instated briefed the students on Yoga and its benefits. Yoga Teacher, Archana Sharma, demonstrated various Asanas. All the students and staff also followed him and performed various Yogasans.
A week-long Yoga Camp was organized in connection with International Yoga Day in Government Higher Secondary School, Roop Nagar, Jammu. During the camp, which culminated today, students and staff members learnt and performed various under the supervision of Yoga expert, Vinod Khar.
A programme on International Yoga Day was also organized at SD Higher Secondary School, Kanya Vidyalaya, Jullaka Mohalla, Jammu. The program started with Saraswati Vandana by the students followed by Yoga exercises by students as well as staff under the supervision of Yoga expert, Nirmal Kanta.
SNS Vidya Mandir High School, Talab Tillo, Jammu in collaboration with Vivekanand Kendra, Jammu organized a programme in the school premises to be observed International Yoga Day. Ashok Koul, general secretary, BJP Jammu, was the chief guest. About 100 students of DBN School also attended the programme. Various Asanas like Suryanamaskar and Kapal Bharti were performed by the students under the supervision of Yoga experts.
Delhi based ‘Indian Ayurveda Org’ organized a yoga camp at Sarthal in Bani tehsil of District Kathua on the occasion of second International Yoga Day. Tourists from various regions of Jammu, Punjab and Himachal participated in the Yoga camp and practiced various Yogasanas. Dr Hitender, Founder of ‘India Ayurveda Org’, informed the participants that Yoga is not merely a form of exercise but a lifestyle that encourages an individual to live a healthy and disease free life.
On World Yoga Day, Aadarsh Bhartiya Samaj, a social organization working to promote Education, Environment, Health and Nationhood among the people, organized an awareness programme, during which Krishan Sharma and Ranjana Sharma delivered lecture on the importance of Yoga.
NSS Unit of GDC Kishtwar celebrated International Yoga Day with full enthusiasm. Volunteers participated in the yoga practices following the expert demonstrator Vishal Kumar. Prof SK Sen, NSS PO of the college explained the benefits of different asanas and pranayams.
MHS DAV Cent Public School, Akhnoor celebrated the International Day of Yoga, wherein SDM Akhnoor was chief guest. On the occasion, students presented different yoga asanas. To boost the morale of the students renewed local personalities including SHO Akhnoor Inspector Pushpinder Singh, police officials, faculty members, Principal S Sharma also participated in the programme.
