International Women’s Day celebrated with enthusiasm, fervour

JAMMU, Mar 8: International Women’s Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervour by various organizations and associations at different venues today.
To mark the International Women’s Day, Jammu and Kashmir State Women’s Development Corporation (JKSWDC) in collaboration with Women College Parade, organized a programme in the College’s Auditorium, here today.
Minister for Social Welfare & Forest, Bali Bhagat was chief guest whereas Minister of State for Social Welfare & Health, Asiya Naqash was guest of honour on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Bhagat described women’s status as most revered and respectful in the society, saying that woman is a mother, a sister, a wife and a daughter and every relation is wonderful and makes the society most beautiful. He saluted great women of the country who gave birth to many legendries like former Presidents, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Sania Mirza, Sachin Tandulkar etc. ”
Maintaining that Central as well as State Governments have accorded top priority for the empowerment and welfare of the women in the society, the Minister said that several schemes in this regard have been launched for them.
Ms Asiya also highlighted the role of the women in the society and said the women are contributing in every field at par with their male counterparts.
Minister of State for Information, Education and Culture, Priya Sethi today said that it is important for the progress of nation that women are empowered and encouraged in every sphere of life.
The Minister was speaking at a function organized in connection with celebration of International Women’s Day here today.
Speaking on the occasion the Minister said that the motive of commemoration of this day is to give respect and appreciation besides paying tribute to indomitable spirit of women for their social, economical, and political contribution.
The Minister said that women have a vital role to play in transforming society and time has come when there should be an awakening among women regarding their rights and contribution. She further appealed the masses that women should be respected and given their due place, respectability and honour.
She called upon the women folk to actively involve themselves in the matters related to community development and social upliftment.
The day was celebrated with zeal and zest at Government Higher Secondary School Samba, under the supervision of Inder Singh, Chairman District Legal Services Authority (Principal District & Sessions Judge), Samba.
The function was presided over by Ritesh Kumar Dubey, Chairman Tehsil Legal Services Committee (Sub Judge/CJM), Samba.
The speakers included Sudarshan Khanmotra, Didar Singh, Ahilaya Sambyal, Sharada Saraf, Motia Vaid, Arushi Sambyal, Roop Chand, Jagdish Raj and Karan Chand.
International Women’s Day was celebrated in the Samba District with great enthusiasm at  various places  in order to aware the females about their rights and with a message to put an end to violence against girls and discriminatory practices like dowry harassment etc.
At Samba, MLA Samba Dr D K  Manyal  was the chief guest and large number of Anganwari workers, Asha Workers and Health Workers participated in the function. ADDC Samba Vivek Sharma, PO ICDS was also present on the occasion.
At Ghagwal, MLA Hiranagar Kuleep Raj was the chief guest and large number of Anganwari workers, Asha Workers, Health Workers participated in the function. SDM Ghagwal and other senior officers were also present on the occasion.
At Vijaypur, similar function was also organised in which Deputy Commissioner Samba Sheetal Nanda IAS  was the chief guest, besides SDM Rajneesh Gupta  and large number of   Staff of Govt. Educational institutes, Anganwari workers, Asha Workers, Health Workers and Senior officers were also present on the occasion .  On this occasion symposium, skits, dramas and other culture programme was also organized.
To empower women physically, Vodafone organized a self-defence and fitness workshop for its women customers today. The idea was to usher in the International Women’s Day, with Vodafone’s women customers feeling empowered by the training they received a day before.
The workshop was conducted by Aarti Mahajan who is the trainer and proprietor at Shapen Smile-The Fitness Club.  Ms Mahajan is a Reebok and Doonya certified trainer and a very well-renowned public figure in the region.
The Workshop was conducted with the aim to empower women with the physical skills required to protect themselves when facing an adverse and unpleasant situation.
Vodafone invited eminent women from across the State those who are well known for the success they had achieved in their respective career. Prominent women professionals from J&K who participated in the event were Prof. Poonam Dhawan, Director, Lifelong Learning Department, Jammu University and Dr Indu Khuda, HoD, Gynecology, Govt Medical College, Jammu.
Sharing his thoughts on the initiative, Bjas Murthy, Operations Head- North, Vodafone India said, “At Vodafone, we have made a conscious effort to encourage diversity and inclusion at workplace, bringing in talent that is diverse in experience and from diverse industry backgrounds; that bring organizationally relevant yet diverse skill sets to the table”.
International Women’s Day was celebrated in Government Higher Secondary School Budgam, under the Chairmanship of Kamlesh Pandit, Chief Judicial Magistrate. On the occasion, women audience was made aware of the sanctity of the day and various laws enacted for the protection of crimes against women.   Tehsil Legal Services Committee, Doda in collaboration with District Health Services Department, Doda organized an awareness programme on “Rights of Women” to commemorate International Women’s Day today at the premises of District Hospital Doda.
Programme was organized as per the annual calendar of activities proposed by the National Legal Services Authority and was attended by persons associated with legal and medical field at District Head Quarter Doda, and few other persons from different walks of life.
Rajeev Gupta, Chairman Tehsil Legal Services Committee (Chief Judicial Magistrate) Doda, Dr. Mohd. Yaqub Mir, Chief Medical Officer, Doda, Advocate Hassan Babur, Dr. Irfana Jan and Ghulam Hassan Wani spoke on the occasion. Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) today celebrated International Women’s Day in its office at Sundar Nagar Talab Tillo, today.
The chief guest on this occasion was Prof. Neeru Sharma, Director, Centre for Women Studies,  University of Jammu who laid stress on many women related issues based on this years theme, “Empowering Women – Empowering Humanity” . Earlier, Dr Rakesh Vaid, Chairman IETE, Jammu Centre introduced the audience to IETE and its activities.
Dr. Parveen Lehana, Secretary, IETE Jammu Centre read the message received from the President IETE, New Delhi.
A panel discussion on the theme was also conducted in which a large number of women participated. Dr Rashi Abrol and Er. Jyoti Lalotra recited beautiful poems based on women empowerment.
The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Dr Sonam Sudan, while  Joy Ganjoo,  Prof Pawnesh Abrol,  Santeresh Lehana, Er. Deepika Sharma,  Anjali Ganjoo, Dr. Radhika Khanna, Shumila Yaqoob, Er. Sonakshi Raina, Er. Varun Raina, Prof. Romilla Malla Bhat, Er. Sumeet Gupta, Deepti Sharma, Renu Rajput, Rakesh Prasher, Devi Dass were present on the occasion.
Samooh Theatre and Jay Kay Women Welfare Society, today jointly organized a felicitation function to celebrate the International Women’s Day here at K.L. Saigal Hall, Cultural Academy.
The prominent women who were felicitated in view of their long contribution towards the theatre included  Santosh Sangra, Sapna Soni, Kanika Sharma, Aditi Aryan (in the children category) while  Seema Devi and Meenakshi Bhargava were felicitated for their contribution in the field of NGO.
Hitesh Gupta SDM Sunderbani was the chief guest, while Kuldeep Sharma was the guest of honour.

The felicitation function was designed in an innovative style as the theatre actresses were felicitated followed by their enactment of the character poetry in the play had already performed.
Prominent among others who attended the function were Makhan Lal Saraf,  Jugal Koul, Er. Vijay Sharma,  Lalit Sharma, Madan Rangeela, Ayash Arif besides the artists of Theatre and T.V. fraternity. T R Sharma presented vote of thanks.
A workshop on “Laws Relating to Women and Amendment Thereto” was   organized  by DLSA at Kishtwar under the Chairmanship of Bala  Jyoti, Chairman District Legal Services Authority (Principal District &  Sessions Judge) Kishtwar, wherein District Development Commissioner, Mohd Javed  Khan was chief guest and Superintend of Police, Jougal  Manhas was guest of honour.
President Bar Association, Advocate O P Parihar read out welcome address. Principal Kendriya Vidayala, Tehsildar Head Quarter, Anuradha Thakur, Dr Shafiqa, Dr.Daisy Parihar, Chief Prosecuting  Officer, Mansoor Ahmed, Bank Officers, District Social welfare  Officer spoke on the occasion and deliberated upon the topic.
Bala Jyoti Chairman  District Legal Services Authority gave power point presentation on “Laws Relating to Women and amendment thereto”. The session was interactive and meaningful. All the Speakers highlighted the bullet points of the workshop.
The vote of thanks was presented by Chief Judicial Magistrate, Balbir Lal Jaswal, while the programme was compared by Anurada Thakur, Tehsildar Headquarter and Rajesh Sharma Advocate.
An awareness rally on crime against women was, organized by Gandhi Memorial College of Education Raipur, Bantalab Jammu. The rally started from College and culminated at village Nardani of Kot Bhalwal Zone of Jammu.
The rally was flagged off by the Principal the College Prof. G.L. Koul.  The theme of the rally was “Stop Crime against Women”. The students participated in the rally with full zeal and enthusiasm along with local women and lady panch.
Slogan shouting students marched on the road with banners and holding play cards in their hands. Awareness was also given on female foeticide, so-called “honour“ killings, acid attacks, rape, trafficking and dowry murders during the rally.
The students and people were urged to be extra careful and take preventive measures to avoid getting into such situations. The rally was staged here as a mark of protest crimes against women.
The rally was held under the aegis of Women Studies Cell of GMCEJ.
District Legal Services Authority Reasi under the Chairmanship of KS Parihar, District & Sessions Judge (Chairman District Legal Services Authority) Reasi celebrated International Women’s Day by organizing a Legal Awareness Camp AT Government Girls Higher Secondary School Reasi.
Prominent among others who attended the Camp were Additional Special Mobile Magistrate Anjana Rajput, Munsiff/JMIC, Reasi, Jyoti Bhagat, V K Sharma, president Bar Association and Principal Government Higher Secondary School, Reasi.
Women’s Day was celebrated at Sub District Hospital Bhaderwah, under the chairmanship of Chairman, District Legal Aid Services Authority, today.
Women from all walks of society attended the programme with great enthusiasm and actively participated in the delebrations and showered their valuable suggestions to strengthen the cause of women folk.
Prominent among others who participated in the programme were BMO Bhaderwah, ASP, DySP and SHO Bhaderwah.
