JAMMU, May 1: The 3-day conference of International Indian Model United Nations, Mumbai concluded at Heritage School, here today.
Model United Nations is a simulation of the United Nations allowing students to step into the shoes of today’s diplomats.
It started as back as 1920 and is being conducted by prestigious schools like Harvard, Berkeley, and University of Pennsylvania as well as in most parts of the world.
The Jammu chapter first in being an inter city conference was held from April 29 to May 1, 2016 was a grand success with 150 delegates participating from reputed schools of Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab.
Training sessions held prior to the event gave the young delegates crystal clear picture of UN procedures.
Over the course of three days, the delegates debated, discussed, caucused and wrote resolutions on their topics. They were judged on their ability to negotiate, think and listen: awareness of international politics and their country’s foreign policy.
The Executive Board of each committee awarded its winners Best Delegate, High Commendation and Special Mention Awards. Manpriya Kour Sodhi, Sharika Sharma,  Supriya  Shekhar of Presentation Convent School, Vanshaj Sharma of G.D Goenka and Angad Chadha of APS Udhampur were adjudged as Best Delegates.  Ayushman Sharma, Khevan Kachroo, Isha Khurana of K.C Public School, Sheikh Yamina and Rafia Reshi of Green Valley, were accorded High Commendation. Mrigu Sambyal and Raghunandini Singh of Heritage School, Supriya Awasthi of APS Udhampur, Epsita, Vanshika Jamwal  and Daania Hazakat of  Presentation Convent School were conferred with Special Mention Certificate.
The Best Photographer award was bagged by Muskan Gupta and Ishan Koul of Heritage School. The Best Delegation Trophy was lifted by the exultant delegates of Presentation Convent School. The Winning Delegation and Host School are invited to IIMUN -USA in the month of August.
A short video which captured the memorable moments of the delegates was shown to the gathering. The Principal of the host school, Jagadish Singh Dhami was present on the occasion.
