JAMMU, Feb 24: The two day 5th international conference on “Sustainable Destination Excellence: Transforming Social Communities through Tourism Entrepreneurship.” concluded today at School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, University of Jammu.
Prof Keshav Sharma, Dean Academic Affairs, JU, presided over the function and Prof Manoj Dixit, Vice Chancellor, Dr RML Avadh University, Faizabad, delivered the valedictory address.
The conference was held under the convenorship of Prof Parikshat Singh Manhas, Director School of Hospitality & Tourism Management, JU.
Prof Manoj Dixit emphasised the importance of community participation in the tourism development and decision making process. He discussed how important it is to identify various favourable and unfavourable tourism impacts as such impacts have a grave impression on the quality of life of local residents. He emphasised that tourism development should be people centric and will sustain only if the community is benefitted from tourism at large. He also elaborated on the various obstacles and challenges of community participation and suggested measures and techniques to overcome such issues.
Prof Keshav Sharma said that tourism is highly sensitive phenomenon and Government alone cannot sustain this development unless the entrepreneurial community takes active participation in the same.
Prof Jigar Mohammad, Dean Research Studies, JU, in his remarks, said that cultural diversity fosters prosperity and peace to any tourism destination. He further added that Jammu & Kashmir promotes diverse forms of tourism which adds to the beauty of the State as a tourism destination.
Earlier, Prof Parikshat Singh Manhas, Director SHTM said that the conference was an endeavour to transform society. He further apprised the audience that the School has carved its niche in tourism market through its first generation entrepreneurs. He further presented the conference report wherein he talked about the various technical sessions during the conference.
Dr Anil Gupta, Conference Secretary, JU, presented the formal vote of thanks while the proceedings of the conference were conducted by Conference Coordinator Dr Suvidha Khanna.
