JAMMU, Nov 15: International Centre for Cross Cultural Research and Human Resource Management (ICccR & HRM), University of Jammu, organised an interaction on ‘Grassroot Level Innovations’ for the students of the MBA (International Business) Programme.
The interaction was organised under the ‘Prominent Lecture Series’ with Dr K C Sharma, Chief Consultant Surgeon and a grassroot level innovator, as the resource person. Dr K C Sharma is a person of international repute and the recipient of several national awards.
The objective of the interaction was to acquaint the students with the understanding of how grassroot-level innovations may hold the key to overcoming some of the key challenges being faced today and to encourage the students to have a broader perspective and seeking for alternative and innovative solutions to the problems.
Dr K C Sharma threw light upon the concept of innovation and reflected that it is a routine phenomena and there is no particular requirement and criteria that needs to be fulfilled in order to innovate. He encouraged the students to explore possible innovative ideas and harness their creativity at the grassroot level. While addressing some exceptional examples of grassroots level innovations, particularly in the rural areas, he motivated the students to make the most out of their creative potential, knowledge, skills and instinct to recognise those ideas that can practically solve some of the country’s most pressing challenges. He encouraged the students to take their ideas and prototypes to the level of implementation wherein they can experiment and research to give concrete shape to what lies hidden in their mind and thoughts. He talked about the rural innovators, extraordinary men and women, who silently contribute towards the innovation movement for the economic development and advancement of society.
Earlier, Professor Deepak Raj Gupta, Director, ICccR & HRM, JU, talked about the need to think about innovative practices to provide sustainable solutions for global issues and challenges. He reflected that there is a need to expand the global as well as local space for innovations at grassroots and institutional level by creating knowledge networks for augmenting innovations and unfolding the creative potential of individuals, institutions and societies through frugal, flexible and friendly empathetic innovations.
