Inter state drug racket busted, 4 arrested with 290 kgs poppy straw

RAMBAN, Feb 23: Banihal police busted inter state drug racket with the arrest of four persons and recovery of 290 kilograms of poppy straw.
As per police sources, on reliable information, a team from Banihal Police Station laid a naka near T-Chowk and intercepted a truck bearing registration number PB09X-7727.
During checking, police recovered 250 kilograms of poppy straw packed in the gunny bags and arrested the driver.
The arrested person has been identified as Shamsher Singh, son of Puran Singh, a resident of Maqsoodpur, district Kapurthala, Punjab.
Meanwhile, a team from Banihal Police Station established another naka at Thathar and intercepted a truck bearing registration number HR68-9697.
During frisking, police recovered 50 kilograms of poppy straw from the vehicle and arrested three persons.
The arrested persons have been identified as Omkar Singh, son of Avtar Singh, Binder Kumar, son of Gurbaksh and Jasbir Singh, son of Antar Singh, all residents of Jallandhar.
The accused were taking the consignment to Punjab for selling among the people there, but police foiled their bid.
Cases under FIR Numbers 20/18 and 21/18 under Sections 8/15 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Banihal Police Station and investigation started.
Police team led by SHO Banihal Inspector Aejaz Wani and assisted by Incharge Jawahar Tunnel Police Post SI Shamim Ahmed Sumbrya made the arrests under the supervision of SDPO Banihal Dheeraj Singh Katoch, Additional SP Ramban Mushtaq Chowdhary and SSP Ramban Mohan Lal.
