Inter-School competitions for girls commence

JAMMU, Aug 3: Inter School District Level Tournament for Girls Under-19 years in the sports disciplines of Badminton, Yoga, Thang-Tha, Wushu, Sqay Martial Art, Judo, Gymnastics  and Fencing for  the  year 2018-19 of District Jammu got underway at Indoor Complex, MA Stadium, here today.
In all, 100 girls drawn from 14 Zones of Jammu District are taking part in the competitions.
The competitions are being organised by Department of Youth Services & Sports under the patronage of Shiekh Fayaz Ahmad, Director General Youth Services and Sports and under the overall supervision of Madan Lal, Joint Director. Chanchal Kour, DYSSO Jammu is the Organising Secretary of the urnament.
The objective of the competitions is to select the teams of Jammu District for the next level of competitions.
In Badminton Girls Under-9 years, DPS Jammu beat Maharishi Vidya Mandir by 2-1; GD Goenka defeated GGHS Mubharak Mandi by 2-0; Carmel Convent School drubbed APS Ratnu Chak by 2-1 and APS Miran Sahib thrashed their rival by 2-0.
In the quarterfinals, GD Goenka outplayed Wazir Janki Nath School by 2-0; APS Miran Sahib beat MIER Jammu by 2-0; Govt HS Satwari trounced Carmel Convent by 2-0 and DPS Jammu drubbed MHAC Nagbani by 2-1.
In Fencing Girls Under-19 years, the winners included Simran Anand of Presentation Convent School Jammu; Mannat Yousaf  of Govt HSS Mubharak Mandi; Apoorav Bhuria of KV No-1 Gandhi Nagar and Ishika Sawhney of Dewan Devi School Jammu.
The matches were officiated by the panel of experts of the Department of Youth Services and Sports.
