Institution of Engineers celebrates World Habitat Day

JAMMU, Oct 3: The World Habitat Day 2016 was celebrated today by Institution of Engineers (India) Local Centre Jammu by organizing a seminar on the topic – “Housing at the Centre”. Engineers and other dignitaries from different departments took part in the event, wherein
Er Vinod Malhotra, FIE, former Development Commissioner, Town Planning Organization, Jammu, was the chief guest while Er H C. Jerath, FIE past Chairman Jammu Local Centre, presided over the function.
On this occasion, seven papers were presented on the theme topic by Er S C Thukral, FIE; Er P K Nanda, MIE; Er Sewa Ram, MIE; Er Vijay Kumar Sharma, MIE; Er T K Sharma, AMIE; Er Akash Dusgotra, AMIE and Er. Rajesh Kumar Angural.
During the course of seminar, all the speakers stressed in their papers for making schemes which can provide maximum number of houses for accommodating the larger part of population. India being under develop country having population of 1.25 billion crores needs to have such types of housing schemes which can prove beneficial for the people, they opined.
It was also emphasized by one of the speakers, namely Er P K Nanda that in the case where sufficient land is not available for framing housing colonies, the mode of development be shifted from horizontal development to the vertical development. It was also proposed that schemes like “OWN YOUR HOUSE” for the employees working in J&K Government. be framed so that they can have their own houses. It was also highlighted that in addition to taking up new housing schemes the existing housing structures be given due consideration as regard to their maintenance.
Er. Vinod Malhotra lauded the efforts made by different speakers for coming with the proposal for framing different types of housing schemes and assured the gathering for taking up the necessary action on the said proposals and discussed the concept of adaptation of land pooling. He stressed that the colonizers should come together and implement the concept of land pooling which will prove beneficial information of the housing schemes.
Er B L. Rawal, Honorary Secretary of Jammu Local Centre, conducted proceedings of the function and delivered vote of thanks.
