SRINAGAR, June 29: In a significant initiative aimed at a shift towards digitization, the Information Department has decided to distribute Government advertisements to the empanelled newspapers online.
“We are giving final touches to the IT-enabled mechanism for online distribution of advertisements and the same would be in place soon,” said Muneer-ul-Islam, Director Information and Publicity.
He said besides making distribution of advertisements to newspapers a paper-less task, the new mechanism would also ensure accountability and transparency in the process.
As per the IT-enabled system, each newspaper in the State would get a dedicated username for logging in to the advertisement distribution website of the Information Department and download the advertisements to be published by the paper on a specific date. Moreover, Information Department would not accept any advertisement from the departments without soft copy for the convenience of the news-papers.
“It will function on the same pattern as is in vogue in DAVP, but the Information Department’s website would be more versatile and user-friendly with adequate security safeguards,” said the IT Consultant responsible for designing the new advertisement distribution site of the Information Department.
According to the Director, on the directions of the Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed efforts are underway to engage professionals so that the department is run professionally.
It is pertinent to mention here that earlier this month, the Department of Information and Public Relations opened its official Facebook page to keep the people abreast with the activities of the State Government.
This initiative has been taken to use social media effectively for the wide dissemination of information related to Government activities.
Few days back, the Government constituted a broad-based Empanelment Committee for empanelment of new newspapers to ensure more transparency in empanelment of newspapers for entitlement of Government advertisements.
