JAMMU, Jan 28: The scintillating display of different colours of patriotism, cultural diversity and harmony of Jammu and Kashmir today marked the celebrations of Republic Day in a cultural programme organized by the Department of Information and Public Relations in collaboration with Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar here.
Minister for Education Naeem Akhtar was the chief guest on the occasion. Director, Department of Information and Public Relations Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, Station Director Radio Kashmir, Jammu Anjali Sharma, Principal GCW, Gandhi Nagar Dr Kiran Bakshi, Joint Director, Information Manisha Sareen, Joint Director Information (Headquarters) Abdul Majid Zargar, Deputy Directors Priyanka Bhat, Avleen Kour & Vivek Phonsa, Cultural Officer Raman Joshi, besides staff members of the Department and students of the college attended the action-packed programme.
Terming Jammu & Kashmir an abode of cultural diversity, the Minister said there is a need to highlight the uniqueness of our diversity throughout the world so that people can learn way of life from us. “J&K has so much regional, cultural, ethnic, climatic and topographical diversity,” he added.
While addressing the gathering, the Minister said the day is not far away when the walls of distance in our minds will get destroyed and a new era of development will usher in the State. Jammu has adorned a metropolitan character and a new society is taking birth in Jammu which will definitely help in the overall development of the State, he stressed.
The main highlight of the programme was the dance performance by artists showcasing different cultures of three regions of the State in a single performance. The singing and dance performances by artists of the department and students of GCW Gandhi Nagar, Heritage Public School, Model Institute of Engineering and Research, Model Academy and SN Jain School filled the auditorium with colors of patriotism.
Later, the Minister handed over the mementos to the participants.
