Jammu, Nov 27: Asserting that his party’s roadmap is the only way to establish lasting and sustainable peace in this sub-continent, patron of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today said that normalization of Indo-Pak relations is in the interest of both the countries.
Addressing a function to welcome large number of political activists from Surankote area of Poonch into party fold, Mufti said that his party had pioneered a political and economic agenda to establish sustainable peace in the sub-continent and to fulfil wishes and aspirations of all regions and sub-regions of the State.
“The peace initiatives started after formation of PDP led regime in the State is an irreversible process and there is no alternative to this process”, he said, adding , “first time after 1947, PDP had laid a strong foundation of peace in the year 2002 and every Government has to follow the path of peace shown by the PDP”. He reiterated that roadmap laid by PDP led dispensation was the only way to establish sustainable peace in this sub-continent.
He emphasized on the need to carry forward the peace initiatives and to expand the process of cross-LoC cooperation and trade in Jammu and Kashmir. “Indo-Pak cooperation is the key to resolve all problems of this region” he said and observed peace and cordial relations were in the interests of both the countries.
While observing that ruling National Conference (NC) has lost its credibility due to the wrong policies being pursued by present Government, Mufti said, “It is very unfortunate that the present regime has failed to carry forward the agenda of peace”. “What to say of consolidating peace initiatives of previous regime, this Government has unfortunately reversed the whole process”, he said and pointed out that prevailing anarchy and sense of insecurity was result of the wrong policies of present regime.
Terming opening of cross LoC trade as most significant and historical Confidence Building Measures (CBM), Mufti observed that lot more needed to be done to simplify the process of trade and movement of people.  He demanded that right to travel across the LoC should not be confined only to divided families. People of Jammu and Kashmir should have the right to move across the borders hassle free. He demanded simplification of the cumbersome process of travelling across the LoC.
Mufti assured to set up a Medical College at Poonch if PDP come to power in next Assembly elections. “I had made this commitment in 2008 Assembly elections and today I again repeat this promise”, he said.
