Indian cop honoured

Inspector Shakti Devi of the J&K Police, currently deployed in the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan has brought laurels to the nation and particularly to the J&K State. In the course of her duties with the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan she has rendered exemplary service in helping the police of Afghanistan move towards achieving their goals of fully adopting democratic principles of policing. “She has also rendered commendable service in improving the service for victims of sexual and gender-based violence leading to successful investigation and prosecution,” the UN agency said.
It is a matter of great pride and honour that our female cop has been able to render meritorious services in a region of conflict which involves great risk. It speaks for her dedication and courage that the UN had to formally recognize her contribution. We are in the habit of deriding our police force and attributing only negative traits to it which is a very wrong approach. Shakti Devi’s example tells us that our well trained and guided police force has talent and capacity. All that is needed is proper exposition and opportunities to demonstrate inherent aptitude in our cops. Commendable services rendered by the Indian cop deployed with UN Mission in Afghanistan proves that India has earned for herself a good name of rendering peacekeeping role for the UN in troubled regions.  India is the largest contributor to UN peacekeeping operations, having contributed more than 170,000 troops in 43 out of 69 peacekeeping missions mandated by the United Nations Security Council so far. Indian peacekeeping force have been known for their impartial but sympathetic attitude in conflict stricken regions whether African continent or the South East Asian region or the West Asian region.
