NEW DELHI, Feb 16: India will land its “Moon Mission” in April this year when Chandrayan-2 descends on the surface of  Moon, along with Lander and Rover configuration. However, the window period for landing is up to October.
Announcing this here today at a press conference to highlight India’s Space and Atomic Energy achievements under the Modi Government and to underline some of the important landmarks planned for the next few months,Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh said, Chandrayan-2 is, in certain ways, going to be more important and significant than even the Apollo Mission of USA, which had landed first human being Neil Armstrong on the surface of the Moon. He said, even though Neil Armstrong had walked a few steps on the surface of the Moon, but it was India’s Chandrayan-1, which later on went and brought the evidence of the presence of water on the surface of Moon, thus giving a subtle indicator of the possibility of habitation or availability of oxygen for human survival. Chandrayan-2 is an extension of the same work with much more sophistication and extensive agenda.
Dr Jitendra Singh said, the Lander & Rover accompanying Chandrayan-2 will virtually work as some kind of robot by collecting samples of soil, earth and other materials, which can be used for further analysis, research and inferences. The inputs and the samples collected by Chandrayan-2 would be of far – reaching utility and significance, not only for India, but even for the most advanced Space Centres of the world including NASA.
The accomplishment of Chandrayan Mission, Dr Jitendra Singh said, will not only mark a major scientific leap forward for India, but would also serve as a great booster to India’s pride and esteem among the community of world nations.
In the field of Nuclear Energy, Dr Jitendra Singh said, a major breakthrough during the Modi Government has been the application of Atomic Energy techniques in diverse areas to bring ease of living. In this regard, he cited the example of using atomic radiations to enhance the quality and shelf-life of several fruit and vegetable products.
