The meeting passed a resolution expressing its deep appreciation of the victory of India in the UN General Assembly regarding its recent overwhelming election to the UN Human Rights Council for the period 2019-2022.
Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo, president, PK while addressing the meeting said that his organisation has put lot of its efforts in the field of Human Rights over the last almost three decades of exile. The appointment of the Indian representative in the UNHRA in the current context would prove greatly beneficial to the Asia-Pacific Region. South Asian affairs in the UNHRC agenda have potential to highlight the sorry state of affairs of the victims of Islamic terrorism in this region. It includes the Kashmiri Pandits-the indigenous people of Kashmir, as well, who are living as refugees in their own country for the last three decades.
P K is seriously concerned about the utterances of the newly appointed UNHCHR Michelle Bachelet regarding India. This has also reference to the earlier report presented by her predecessor Zeid Ra’ad Al Husseian regarding Jammu and Kashmir. P K vehemently rejected the report and even asked the UN Secretary General to correct the position in this regard. A Memorandum signed by the president of Panun Kashmir and Sanjay Kaul, Chairman, Overseas Affairs of PK was submitted to the Secretary General of United Nations Antanio Gutteres, he added.
Sanjay Kaul, Chairman-Overseas Affairs said that the Indian diaspora in the continent of North America is fully supportive of the KPs’ struggle in exile. The people in general are sympathetic to the cause of the Kashmiri Pandit community and even the other minorities of the State.
Virender Raina, Chairman, Political Affairs Committee PK said that the boycott of ULB elections by the Kashmir centric parties and the separatists has boomeranged and the trend of the voting suggests that the Kashmir Centric politics needed to end in the State.
He also appealed the Governor Satya Pal Malik to intervene in regard to the recruitment process under the PM’s employment package and accordingly ask the administration to take an urgent positive position in the Court of law.
