JAMMU, Oct 1: Panun Kashmir organized a special executive council meeting here today to respond to the current and urgent socio-political scenario.
The meeting was presided over by Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo, President, Panun Kashmir. Lieutenant General (Retd) PS Mehta, Former Deputy Chief of the Defence Integrated Staff was the chief guest on the occasion, while JL Kaul, Vice President, Virender Raina, National Spokesperson, PK, KCS Mehta and Prem Singh, Chairman and President respectively of Kashmir Sikh Displaced Forum, Upinder Kaul, General Secretary, Kamal Bagati, General Secretary (Org) and Sameer Bhat, Convener of Panun Kashmir Youth.
While speaking, KCS Mehta presented the Sikh community perspective in the meeting and extended his full support to Panun Kashmir.
Lieutenant General (Retd) PS Mehta in his address said that the situation in Jammu and Kashmir has been monitored with a very professional benchmark particularly over the last one year. There has been very close liaison with the leaders of the communities in the Jammu and Kashmir, he said, adding that asking for homeland is your birthright and the Sikh community has fully supported Panun Kashmir.
“The threat as posed by the illegal immigrations by Rohingyas is a major security concern and it cannot be brushed away due to political expediency. Terrorism will be dealt with iron hand and the peace will be given all chances to survive”, Mehta stated.
Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo in his concluding speech made it clear that Panun Kashmir will enforce change of narrative on Kashmir on a long term basis. He said as the original inhabitants of the Jammu and Kashmir State, Kashmiri Pandits along with the Dogra community and the people of Ladakh want urgent abrogation of Article 370 and 35A.
Virender Raina said that there is a need of economic empowerment for the displaced community and the Government needs to take urgent steps in this direction. One time settlement for the over-aged youth is an important issue that needs redressal.
He emphasized the need for constitution of Special Crimes Tribunal to probe the excesses committed against the community over the last three decades. This issue was taken up by Panun Kashmir specifically with the Home Minister during the last interaction at Jammu, Raina informed.
Earlier, Virender Raina presented the welcome address and in the end, Upinder Kaul presented the vote of thanks.
