IIPA J&K organizes lecture on ‘Demonetization & its impact’

JAMMU, Sept 28: Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA) J&K Regional Branch today organized prelude conference on “Demonetization and its impact”.
Prof Deepanker Sen Gupta, Professor of Economic, University of Jammu, delivered the key note address while Satish Kumar Sharma, Additional Commissioner of Income Tax, Jammu, was the chief guest and Dr Ruveda Salam, Assistant Commissioner of Income Tax, Jammu, was the guest of honour of the function, which was held under the guidance of Dr Ashok Bhan, Patron and Er J B S Johar, Hony Secretary IIPA, J&K Regional Branch.
Satish Kumar Sharma, in his address, said that it is too premature to analyze, generalize and comment on the impacts of demonetization. He said that with money coming back into the system is indeed an asset for the economy and will pay rich dividends in the long run. He said that it is important to understand the real intent of the Government behind the policy and unless “culture of responsibility” is encouraged real change will not happen.
Earlier, Prof Deepanker Sen Gupta, in his key note address, emphasized that the policy measure of demonetization should be viewed as work in progress and as part of a multifaceted project with multiple aspects. Looking into various economic indicators, he said it is difficult to isolate the effect of demonetization from other major economic initiatives by Government.
Dr Ruveda Salam, in her address, said for realizing the real benefit of demonetization needs to be supplemented with other measures.
Prof Alka Sharma, Director The Business School, University of Jammu and Director, Seminars IIPA,   introduced the subject and the guest speaker to the audience. Dr Anil Gupta, Joint Secretary, IIPA conducted proceedings of the function. Er J B S Johar, presented the formal vote of thanks.
The function was attended by members of the civil society, officers from Income Tax Department, members from Chamber of Commerce & Industries, PHD Chamber of Commerce, Confederation of Industry J&K Chapter, Scholars and Students from University of Jammu and Central University of Jammu, IIPA members, members from welfare societies and  civil society.
