IIIM celebrates CSIR Foundation Day

JAMMU, Sept, 27: The 74th Foundation Day of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) was celebrated here today at the Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (CSIR-IIIM) Jammu. This autonomous body was constituted by the resolution of the then Legislative Assembly in 1942.
The celebrations in this connection were held at IIIM auditorium and were largely attended by eminent scientists, invited dignitaries, guests, members of press & media and members of CSIR-IIIM.
Prof. Javed Mussarat, Vice-Chancellor, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University Rajouri, J&K was chief guest of this function.
On this occasion, earlier during forenoon session, about 300 students from different colleges and schools in the Jammu city were taken on a guided visit to the various research departments of the institute. To inculcate the interest of research, the Scientists and Technical staff have demonstrated their research and developmental activities and shared their important research findings to the visitor students.
Late in the evening, a simple and impressive function was organized in the IIIM auditorium to celebrate the CSIR Foundation Day. Dr. Ram Vishwakarma, Director, IIIM Jammu in his welcome address described Prof. Javed, the chief guest as distinguished Scientist who is internationally acclaimed biochemist. Dr. Ram further said that Prof. Javed has a distinction in academics and dynamic administrator.
Prof. Javed Mussarat, delivered the CSIR Foundation Day lecture entitled, “Small is not always beautiful: A Nanotoxicological Prospective”. Eulogizing the role of CSIR in Indian Science & Society, Prof. Javed said that much of the science policy of this country in research and education can be traced back to early initiatives taken by the then Education Minister Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Prof. Javed further gave detailed presentation on the nanotechnology and toxicological aspect of nano particles. A great scope of research on nano-particle for biological science is there, said Prof Javed.
The chief guest also distributed prizes for different activities conducted as part of Foundation Day celebrations.
Vandana Sharma, Gourav Gupta, Ashok Bhargava were the first, second and third winners of the Science Quiz.
Mementos were also presented to the seven employees of Council who have this year completed 25 years of service and sixteen such employees who were superannuated during September, 2015 and August, 2016.
Er. Abdul Rahim, Head PME & IT Divisions presented the vote of thanks while Neelam Sharma conducted the proceedings.
