IGP reviews traffic management on Jammu-Udhampur highway

JAMMU, Feb 28: In order to bring improvements in traffic management on Nagrota-Udhampur road stretch, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Traffic, Jagjit Kumar chaired a meeting with Traffic Police officers and officers from National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), here today.
While discussing the different measures for improving traffic management on the stretch, Jagjit Kumar asked the officers to take coordinated efforts and ensure free movement of vehicular traffic on the stretch. He said that heavy flow of traffic is being observed during peak hours which cause jams on the Ban Toll Plaza. He asked the concerned officers to make arrangements for enhancing the toll collection booths and introduce cashless system to avoid such jams at the Toll Plaza.
In order to meet the emergency situation arising as a result of road traffic accidents, effective deployment of ambulances to provide timely medical assistance to the victims was also discussed. Other issues including erection of speed breakers, sign boards, zebra crossings marks and checking overloading of goods carriers were also discussed.
The meeting decided that the number of collection booths would be increased from four to eight, besides swapping machines would be utilized for advance toll collection in order to reduce pressure during peak hours.
