IGP inaugurates 33rd Jammu District Badminton Championship

JAMMU, Aug 29: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu Zone Dr SD Singh Jamwal today inaugurated the 33rd Jammu District Badminton Championship, being organized by Jammu City and District Badminton Association at Police Lines Badminton Hall, here.
Around 300 boys and Girls are participating in the Championship.
Dr Jamwal in his address expressed best wishes and success to the participating players. He added that the participation of youth in large number will help the players to stay away from bad habits. On behalf of J&K Police, IGP assured to provide better sports infrastructure.
“Like PV Sindhu, who won Silver medal in Asiad, the players of J&K can also bring laurels to the State by winning medals in the national and international events”, he asserted.
Among others present were Dr OD Sharma, Chairman, J&K Badminton Association and Vice President of Badminton Association of India, Gulzar Singh Slathia, former IGP, Balbir Singh Jamwal, General Secretary, J&K Badminton Association, Sultan Mirza, Kirti Sharma, Basanti Bhat, S Sarvanan, Vivek Mehta, Som Raj Gupta, Organizing Secretary, Vijay Verma, KD Singh, Indu Bushan and PD Singh.
The matches were conducted under the supervision of Sat Pal Sharma, NIS Badminton Coach and the officials were Sukhdev Singh, Pawanjit, Baktawar Singh and Vikram Jamwal.
Meanwhile, in Under-15 girls (singles), Charvi beat Ananya, Ravati lost to Ritika, Muskan lost to Sambhvi, Samia lost to Krishika and Simridhi lost to Parisha.
In under-17 boys (singles), Aesh Goswami beat Gorav Mahajan, Sanjeev beat A Pratap Singh, Saksham Sharma lost to Rahul, Gulshan beat Harsh Saini, Vansh Mahajan lost to Sujal, Akshit Sharma beat Harsh Parihar, Abhay lost to Dheeraj Sharma, Sarabjeet beat Aditya, Ujas Suri lost to Malkarjun, Aryan Sharma lost to Shubham, Mohit lost to Prince, Sanyam Rangi beat Gurjot Singh and Bhabya Sharma beat Satyam Tondon.
In under-17 girls (singles), Rashmi Kashyap beat Nupur, Sukriti lost to Anandita, Snowy beat Mansvi, Simridhi lost to Unnati Jalal, Pranjal beat Jasleen, Ananya Luthra lost to Shruti and Ashmi Raina lost to Poorvi Singh.
