IGNOU Regional Centre Jammu celebrates 32nd Foundation Day

JAMMU, Nov 19: Regional Centre Jammu of the Indira Gandhi National Open University celebrated 32nd Foundation Day of IGNOU, here today.
The celebrations  started with watching the live webcast of the function from the New Delhi  Hqrs. which was followed by lighting of ceremonial lamp  by the chief guest  O P Sharma, veteran journalist and Prof O P Sharma, renowned academician, who was the  guest of honour on the occasion.
All the staff members of IGNOU Regional Centre Jammu, including Regional Director, Dr Joginder Kumar Yadav, Assistant Regional Directors- Vikram Singh and Dr Asha Upadhaya and also Asst Registrar, S T P Singh were present on the occasion. Some of the functionaries of local City Centres also participated in the event.
Regional Director, Dr Joginder Kumar Yadav, in his address, informed about the number of initiatives that the University and the Regional Centre Jammu have taken to strengthen students support services in the region. He informed that Regional Centre Jammu has marked its presence in the remotest parts of region by expanding the network of Learner Centres. He was also contended to share that Regional Centre Jammu has marked its presence in the top three spot in the entire country as far as enrolment and support services are concerned. Dr. Yadav appreciated the role of Regional Centre staff for their tireless efforts in making the Jammu Regional Centre one of the top Regional Centres in the entire country.
O P Sharma, veteran journalist and senior-most Academic Counsellor of IGNOU, shared experiences of his long association of more than three decades with IGNOU.
Prof O P Sharma, renowned academician, shared his views about the ODL mode of education and said that teaching/learning through distance mode of education is in no way inferior to the conventional face to face mode of education. He termed IGNOU as the People’s University in literal terms accessible to all those far and wide who otherwise would have lost the opportunity to gain access to higher education, improve upon their qualification and increase the chances of employment.
