JAMMU, Jan 18: Claiming that the Regional Centre Jammu has implemented all the schemes and initiatives in letter and spirit, Dr Joginder Kumar Yadav, Regional Director IGNOU, today informed about Student Facilitation Centre for online fresh admission and re-registration for subsequent years/semesters, which is a step forward for encouraging cashless transactions.
“The initiative was taken in view of an important decision taken by the University to make the entire re-registration process online from January 2017 session onwards therefore dispensing off with the offline mode. The facilitation centre was set up keeping in mind difficulties faced by the students in the region due to low broadband penetration, difficult terrain, insurgency and other factors. Students are required to come along with the original documents pertaining to qualification/experience, recent passport size colour photograph, ATM/ Debit/Credit Card, Mobile Number registered with the Bank for Fresh admission. For re-registration, only ATM/Debit/ Credit Card would be required,” he explained while highlighting the initiatives taken by IGNOU for benefit of the student community.
Dr Yadav also informed that the Regional Centre Jammu was in the process of training 100 students to work as e-Kranti volunteers as a part of the Central Government’s Financial Literary Mission. “A team from RC Jammu visited some of the remote areas like Drabshalla and Kishtwar in Kishtwar district of the region and trained volunteers who would in turn be helping/training the locals to perform cashless transactions,” he added.
In compliance of village adoption under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan and MoU between IGNOU and Ministry of Textiles for skill development and educational up-liftment of the weaver community, the Regional Director informed that IGNOU was offering fee waiver in two six-month duration programmes viz. BPP (Bachelor Preparatory Programme) and CLP (Computer Literacy Programme) for the students belonging to weaver community from the January 2017 session.
For implementation of this Scheme, Regional Centre Jammu has identified two villages namely, Basholi and Billawar in district Kathua where it intends to offer these two courses to family members of weavers of these two areas through its already established Learner Study Centres in Basholi and Machhedi.
“This will help the weavers in developing their capacity about the best practices being used in their field. It will also help them to opt for best and latest practices for enhancement of skills in weaving and designing. The family members, who are interested to get the benefit, will have to enroll their names at their nearest IGNOU study centre in both the districts,” he said.
