JAMMU, Apr 13: Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) today organized its 30th Convocation at IGNOU Maidan Garhi New Delhi Headquarters and simultaneously at all its Regional Centres across the country, including Regional Centre Jammu.
Convocation at Jammu was held at the Auditorium of Govt College for Women, Gandhi Nagar Jammu. Prof R D Sharma, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, who was chief guest on this occasion, awarded Degree Certificates to the eligible learners. A total of 8105 learners from Regional Centre Jammu were declared successful and eligible to receive Diplomas and Degree Certificates out of which 3592 are Master Degree awardees, 3975 are Bachelor Degree awardees, 438 are of Diploma programmes and 100 learners are of six months Certificate programmes. Around 300 learners of B Ed., BLIS and Master Degree programmes were awarded Degree Certificates in the Convocation function at Jammu in person.
One of the learners namely Reetika Kumari from Regional Centre Jammu was awarded Gold Medal for her meritorious performance in Bachelor in Library and Information Sciences (BLIS) programme throughout the Country.
Prof. R D Sharma, in his Convocation address, said it was a proud moment for Jammu that one of the learners has been awarded Gold Medal for her meritorious performance throughout the country. He urged the awardees that they all have a collective responsibility to work hard for progress of the society and the country as a whole.
Regional Director, Dr Joginder Kumar Yadav, presented the Regional Centre Report on the occasion. In his report, Dr Yadav presented a summary of the initiatives that the University and the Regional Centre Jammu have taken to strengthen students support services network in the region. He reported that the Regional Centre Jammu is marking its presence in the remotest parts of the region by expanding the network of Learner Centres.
Regional Director informed that the Government of Jammu & Kashmir has finally sanctioned land measuring 14.5 Kanal for IGNOU Regional Centre Campus in Bantalab.
S Tajinder Pal Singh, Assistant Registrar of the Regional Centre Jammu, presented the vote of thanks.
