PULWAMA, Apr 15: In a scathing attack on Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today invoked the latter’s refusal to wear Muslim skullcap to hit out at his rival People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
“Narendra Modi wore all State dresses whether in Punjab or in Assam. But he refused to wear a skull cap offered by a Muslim Imam. So if you vote for PDP, you are voting for Modi,” Omar said while addressing rally in Wasoora village of Pulwama district.
Omar said that PDP and BJP have an understanding and they want Modi as PM. “PDP wants Modi to be PM; that Modi, who even didn’t say sorry for murdering Muslims in Gujarat. In Modi they see the image of Atal Bihari Vajpayee,” he added.
The Chief Minister slammed PDP President Mehbooba Mufti for her lack of representative character in the Parliament. “Mehbooba Mufti could not speak beyond four words of ‘main kya bolon yaar’ in Parliament when she was asked to speak. So how can she represent you in the Parliament,” he said, adding that such representatives are needed who can talk about Kashmir issue there.
Mehbooba is contesting against NC’s Mehboob Beg from Anantnag-Pulwama Parliament seat.
At least 300 people had gathered at the venue who protested against the Government for not announcing any administrative unit for their area. “We want justice, we want administrative units,” the protesters yelled in Omar’s rally.
Omar in his speech promised the angry supporters that after model code of conduct is lifted, he will fulfill their demands. The gathering was also pacified by the NC senior activist Ghulam Nabi Niloora.
Omar also blamed PDP for conspiring against their alliance candidates in Jammu region and said the ‘Pen and Inkpot’ party has fielded candidates only to divide Muslim votes to help the BJP candidate win.
Omar was flanked by senior party members including Rural Development Minister Ali Mohammad Sagar, Parliamentary candidate Mehboob Beg, Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani, and Rajya Sabha member Ghulam Nabi Ratanpuri.
Nasir Aslam Wani in his address said that the party had some misunderstanding with Ratanpuri but they were ironing it out to come to terms with the latter.
