ICM demands Consumer Courts at tehsil level

JAMMU, Mar 15: ICELA Consumer Movement (ICM) has demanded establishment of Consumer Courts at tehsil level to check consumer exploitation at the grass root level.
The demand was raised by general secretary, ICM, Dr YP Sawhney, at a function organized in connection with ‘World Consumer Day’ at Sarwal, today.
The function was presided over by Choudhary Vidya Sagar Gupta, former president, Divisional Consumer Forum and District and Sessions Judge, engineers, doctors, advocates, academicians, Sarpanchs and consumer activists.
In his presidential address, Sagar stressed upon the need of consumer awareness in the rural areas to ensure that the peasantry is not exploited by those supplying the essential commodities and other services to them.
Former Legislator and chairman, ICM, Ashok Sharma, said that unless a strong consumer movement is built up in the State, the consumer exploitation will continue. He urged the general masses to extend active support to voluntary consumer organizations.
