IBM-Chandigarh University collaboration turns out to be big success story

CHANDIGARH, July 9: The collaboration between Chandigarh University Gharuan and IBM (NYSE: IBM) has turned out to be a unique success story of industry-academia partnership aimed at training and producing the next-generation talent for the industry.
The university, which is offering IBM Collaborative Engineering and MBA programs, today announced the passing-out of the first academic batch. More than 53 engineering students completed their Computer Science engineering degree in the emerging areas of Big Data, Information Security and Cloud Computing.
While addressing the media, Chaitanya N Sreenivas, Vice President & HR Head, IBM India and South Asia, said, “We collaborated with Chandigarh University in 2014 for a first of its kind integrated program which has set new benchmarks for all the industry academia partnerships and we are happy to learn that IBM has once again been the first to create innovative models which other companies have now started following.” He added, “This is a reiteration of our Career Education outreach program to ensure deep-skilling partnership with Indian Universities and the fact that we are working with the ecosystem to upskill the student community in niche relevant technologies to enable them to get industry ready.”
Sreenivas continued, “Over the period of 4 years, the program has garnered popularity amongst the student community and currently more than 1000 Engineering and MBA students in their various semesters are being taught via the on-campus delivery model at Chandigarh University which has been co-designed and co-taught by IBM and CU.”
Terming industry-academia partnership as the need of the hour, Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chancellor, said, “Technology is fast evolving and the industry is looking for professionals who can not only contribute towards their growth but also can cope with the changing demands in the corporate world which makes the strategic partnership between industry and academia even more important in the present era.
The IBM-CU collaborative programs offer multiple advantages to the students in the form of experiential learning, industry exposure and learning of emerging technologies that enhances their career scope, Sandhu added.
The campus placement record of the first batch proves the success story of the collaboration as 37 out of the 38 students who sat for campus interviews have been selected by top blue-chip companies with industry best packages.
