HWSK appeals DyCM for rehabilitation

Srinagar, Nov 28: Day after Cabinet Sub Committee (CSC) was constituted by Government to look into the rehabilitation of Kashmiri and Jammu migrants, the Valley based-internally displaced Hindus today appealed Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh to consider their long pending demand of rehabilitation.
Chunni Lal, who heads Hindu Welfare Society Kashmir (HWSK), said that the internally displaced Pandits have been running from pillar to post for several years but the successive regimes have failed them. He however expressed hope that the CSC headed by Deputy CM would take note of the problems and demands of the Pandits who reside in Valley.
“Nearly 700 Pandit families are living in Kashmir Valley, who preferred to stay here during the peak years of turmoil in 1990. However, they left their ancestral homes and moved towards city and other townships. They are living in rented accommodations and paying huge amount of rent every month,” he said, adding that the Government should at least provide accommodation and jobs to these families.
He said that non-migrant Pandit youth should also be accommodated in recently announced 3000 job package for Kashmiri Pandits. “The internally displaced youths are jobless and there are as of now no job avenues for them. It would be a big step if they too are allowed to avail benefit of this job package,” he said.
The HWSK president further said that they will soon submit a comprehensive list of internally displaced families’ as well jobless youths to Deputy CM “so that he can understand our problems”.
