Srinagar, Apr 17: As militants step up attacks against mainstream political parties’ workers, hardline faction of Hurriyat Conference today denounced these killings and termed them against Islam and humanity while High Court Bar Association suspended work in courts across Kashmir to protest killing of former Public Prosecutor and Advocate in Shopian district.
Hardline Hurriyat chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani expressed concern over what he termed as mysterious killings in Pulwama district and said there is no justification for such killings.
“It is unfair and against humanity to kill person for his specific ideology or affiliations. Secret killings will lead us to chaos. Teachings of Islam assign extra ordinary worth for human life and saving a human being is like saving of the whole humanity,” he said.
Meanwhile, separatist linked High Court Bar Association today suspended work against killing of Advocate Imtiyaz and claimed he was not linked with any political party. A statement issued here said a delegation of District Bar Association Shopian headed by its Secretary and accompanied by other office bearers of the Association, called on the members of High Court Bar Association in Srinagar.
“During the course of meeting, the members of the delegation apprised the members of the High Court Bar Association, the circumstances under which Advocate Imtiyaz Ahmad Khan was killed by unidentified gunmen at Pinjoora Shopian after coming back from a Masjid where he had gone to offer Isha (late night) prayers,” the statement said.
The statement further added: “They also represented that the advocate was not associated with any political party and even though he had worked as Public Prosecutor in the Court of Sessions Judge, Shopian, for some time but from the year 2014 he was discharging his professional duties simply as a private lawyer.”
According to the Bar statement, the assassinated lawyer was “staunch supporter” of separatist cause. “The Bar members told the delegation that Shopian Bar should constitute a team and enquire at their own level, the causes and motive of killing of Advocate Imtiyaz Ahmad Khan,” the statement added.
