Hundreds of girls participate in cross country race

POONCH, Oct 15: With an aim to promote girls participation in games and sports, a cross country race for girls was organized by Sports Authority of India (SAI), which started from Government High School Jhullas and concluded at Jhullas Army ground, here.
A total of 150 girls from Poonch, Jhullas and Mandi schools participated in the race.
Earlier DYSSO Ayaz Khan, DySP DAR Mohan Sharma, Retd SAI Hockey Coach Sham Lal Sharma and Treasurer Hockey J&K flagged off the race in presence of Veena Tandon, Headmaster GHS Jhullas, Narjeet Singh ZPEO, Pawan Kumar PEL, Rajinder Singh Toofan PEM, Mukesh Kumar PET, Harmik Singh PET, Sanjeev Sharma, Vikas Raina and Ramandeep Singh.
Col R Jagat Naryan was the chief guest on the closing ceremony, who while speaking adviced the participant to participate in games and sports in large and keep working hard to represent at national and international levels. He assured his support to promote sports activities.
The chief guest along with other dignitaries distributed trophies among top 10 participants and certificates to all the participants.
The race was organized by Ajit Singh, Deputy Director Incharge SAI, J&K, who while speaking briefed about different schemes of SAI to promote girls participation in sports and to lift level of games and sports across India. He also assured to organize more sports activities in different games in the time to come in Poonch and other areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
