JAMMU, Oct 1:  A meeting of All Jammu Hotels & Lodges Association held under the leadership of its president Inderjeet Khajuria in which grave concern was expressed over a raw deal given to flood hit areas of Jammu in relief distribution.
While addressing the meeting, Mr Khajuria said that even the political parties including BJP and Congress are hankering for getting political mileage out of the relief distribution, which is a cause of concern. He further said that sufficient relief is being sent by the Union Government, besides State Governments have contributed to the relief but the Jammu & Kashmir Government lacks the proper mechanism for distribution resulting in neglect of genuine flood sufferers, who are in dire need of relief at this hour of crisis.
Quoting the several lapses by the State Government in relief distribution, he said that more than 60 villages in Tawi islands have been adversely affected due to havoc caused by devastating floods in Tawi river and deluge. He added that several thousands hectors of paddy field have been washed and rendered uncultivable. “It is matter of pity with the exception of distribution of blankets and flour by some NGOs, the administration has totally failed to address the needs of flood victims” he added.
Launching a scathing attack on regional administration, he said that the Jammu administration failed to report the losses caused by flood and heavy rains till now, which reflects its total inefficiency. “What to talk of assessment of total loss of property in Jammu province, even the loss of lives have not been assessed, he added.
