KISHTWAR, Mar 9: A 45-year-old hotelier was shot dead by some persons, here this evening.
As per official sources, the man identified as Istiyaq Ahmad Dar (45), son of Ghulam Rasool Dar (Master) of Semna was fired upon by some miscreants near Islamia Faridiya School.
Dar received bullet wounds in his head and was immediately shifted to the district hospital where doctors declared him as brought dead.
After conducting autopsy by the board of doctors, the body has been handed over to family members for last rites.
A case under relevant Sections has been registered at Kishtwar Police Station and investigation started.
However, locals staged protest and demanded immediate arrest of the miscreants.
Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kishtwar constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the murder of Dar. The SIT will be headed by Superintendent of Police (SP) Perbeet Singh and its members include DySP Police Component Nissar Ahmed, Prosecuting Officer Manzoor Ahmed, SHO Kishtwar Inspector Sameer Jillani and SHO Chatroo Inspector Mohammad Bashir.
A senior police official said that the man was fired upon from point blank range with a pistol.
“Dar owns a hotel near Kishtwar bus stand and he was shot dead near Islamia Faridiya School after intercepting his motorcycle”, the official said, adding that a live cartridge has been found near the site.
A special forensic team from FSL Jammu has been called to assist in the investigation of the case, he said, adding that police is on job and Call Detail Records (CDR) of deceased can give some leads.
