Hooda to award 38 medals to Army, police officials, civilians

JAMMU, Feb 8:  Northern Army Commander Lt Gen DS Hooda will award 38 medals to Army and police officers and civilians during the Command Investiture Ceremony-2016 at Command Headquarters in Udhampur on February 12.
Defence spokesman (MoD) Col SD Goswami said on the occasion, President’s gallantry and distinguished service awards will be presented to the military personnel and civilians for their service to the nation.
He said Lt Gen Hooda, GOC-in-C  Northern Command, will felicitate the brave hearts of Indian Army who have exhibited exceptional valour and dedication while discharging their duties.
“It will be a moment of pride and honour for all awardee officers and jawans their families under the Command.  The civilians who assisted the Army are also being felicitated on the occasion,’’ Col Goswami said.
A total of 38 medals, including gallantry and service decoration to Army will be presented at the Investiture Ceremony.
Nineteen Sena Medals (Gallantry) including three Sena Medal (Posthumous) will be presented by the Army Commander.
Apart from these gallantry awards, nine Vishisht Seva Medals (VSM) and ten Sena Medals (Distinguished) will be presented to soldiers for distinguished services.
A total of 15 civilians including one Deputy Superintendent of Police will also be awarded on the occasion. Twenty nine units deployed in Northern Command Theatre will be conferred with Unit Citations for excellence in operations, Col Goswami said.
